Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Wallace.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love of wine has grown over the past 20 years and I became interested in all the wines that I could not pronounce. I started realizing that those wines were really amazing and way better than the Chardonnay and Cabernets I had been drinking. I traveled all over the country and visited many wine bars and found that there were not any wine bars in Arizona that could compare.
These wine bars were comfortable, weren’t turning tables, had an extensive wine list and offered a very inviting, comfortable environment. After the 3rd trip to San Francisco, I came home and told my now husband that we were going to open up a wine bar. He thought it was just a pipe dream but I kept doing research and looking into what we needed to open one. A few weeks after this conversation, I came back to him with all the research I had gathered and he looked at me and said, “so we are really doing this,” and that was it. We started the process in November of 2018 and opened in August of 2019.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a very rough road. There were days when I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it, but then something would happen and we would just slide by. We were operating on minimal revenue and I was still learning what it meant to own a business, much less a wine bar. Then COVID hit and we were closed for six months. There were many days where I was ready to throw in the towel, but my husband would just tell me it will all be fine. This is usually what I tell people!
It was not fun and we are still playing catch up. But the shining light out of covid was that it allowed me to grow as an owner and learn how to try and adapt as much as possible. I learned so much during our closure. We reopened in September of 2020 and it has been nothing but a struggle to get to where we are today. I am happy to say that I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have started to see a very positive turn around and I a looking forward to the future.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At the Peacock Wine Bar we offer a friendly, comfortable, and welcoming setting. We have couches and comfy chairs, pillows, warm, inviting colors and our lights are turned down. We have a large wine and beer selection as well as many delicious food options! The Peacock is a great place for a first date, girls’ night out, date night, and you can stay as long as you like. Our tagline is your living room away from home.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are those that I spent with my Nana and Grandpa. My Nana was the most selfless person I had ever known. She would always put everyone else’s needs before herself. My Grandpa was strong but gentle and could fix just about anything. I remember “helping” him put new roofing tiles on and my nana being a nervous wreck because I was up on top of the roof! I spent most of my childhood living in their house, and they are the reason I am who I am today.
