Community Highlights: Meet Toya Danielle Yarbrough of Tricky Royalty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toya Danielle Yarbrough.

Hi Toya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory. 
My name is Toya Danielle Yarbrough. I was born LaToya Randles in Phoenix, AZ, with a rare congenital abnormality that affected my entire digestive system. I struggled with constant discomfort and multiple surgeries. I decided to become a nurse to help people like me; however, along with my physical complications, I also had a severe undiagnosed case of ADHD and difficulty with comprehensive reading.

So you can imagine that made nursing school complicated. It wasn’t because I wasn’t a great nurse or that I was not smart but because the program I attended rated comprehension through testing. After 5 years of fighting, I exited the RN program and took my LPN license exam. Oddly enough, I passed every HESI in my program, so I didn’t even study for my NCLEX.

I passed on the first try and began working in pediatrics in order to help kiddos who were different from me. I did this for 5 years until I was called into leadership roles. All while working for others, though, I had a profound sense that I should be doing something different. I was just not sure what just something to help women who felt trapped in their own minds.

So, I started my very first business (on paper) Fitness With Toya. We were a holistic wellness community that focused on exercising the full woman. Mind, Body, and Spirit. During COVID I was doing both my day job as a Case Management Nurse and Connecting to my community. But again, I felt called to do more!

I started selling candles to incorporate giving peace, and Tricky Royalty was born. Tricky Royalty has bloomed into an Empowerment Boutique for women focusing on peace through Candles, Coffee & Connections.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life has been a journey, and there have been challenges. However, I have learned to embrace every obstacle as an opportunity to learn, grow, and adapt.

I am the owner and C.E.O. of Tricky Royalty LLC. As mentioned before, we pride ourselves in being a community empowerment boutique for women. We sell tummy-friendly oat milk-based iced coffee, lemonades, and candles. We also host Empowerment Brunches for women to remind them of the peace, community, and healing they deserve.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would first like to thank my higher power for giving me a life that stretched me. I would like to thank my husband and kids for jumping in and helping me on every new adventure. I would like to thank my friends and family for supporting me and encouraging me. Last I want to thank our customers and community, every purchase is an investment towards an incredible dream!
