Today we’d like to introduce you to Sesily Monique Gutierrez.
Hi Sesily Monique, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started with nothing but a pair of hands, a dream, and the determination to build something beautiful out of my struggles. Every challenge became a lesson, every setback a step forward. I built my business with love, faith, and fire — and now I pour that same energy into every client who sits in my chair. It’s not just about hair — it’s about confidence, transformation, and knowing your power.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest struggles for me have been learning how to balance it all — being a single mom, raising my kids, and running a business at the same time. When I first opened the salon, I had three little ones, and now I have five! It’s a blessing, but it also means I have to stretch myself in every direction. As my family grew, my time and income stretched too, which made things like marketing and operations tough sometimes.
But even through those challenges, we’ve always found ways to give back. Being part of the community has been a huge support system — we lift each other up when times get hard. One of the hardest things we ever went through was when our salon flooded. It was a complete loss — we had to rebuild everything from scratch, and it cost around $30,000. But my husband rebuilt the salon by hand, and watching him bring it back to life was one of the most beautiful and inspiring things I’ve ever experienced.
We also learned how to adapt — using platforms like Google and YouTube to help with marketing, connecting with new clients, and keeping our name out there. And honestly, good customer service and word of mouth have been our biggest blessings. People talk, they share, and they come back. That’s what keeps us strong.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in color and chemical services — that’s my main focus and what I’m most passionate about. I love transformations, helping people feel brand new, and bringing their vision to life. My priority is always to keep the hair healthy while still giving those bold, beautiful results that make people feel confident when they leave my chair.
What sets me apart is my knowledge, my willingness to educate my clients, and the way I connect with people. I’m super personable — I love to talk, laugh, and really make everyone feel comfortable and understood. I think that open-minded, friendly vibe goes a long way in this business.
I’m most proud of the growth — not just in my career, but in myself. I’ve faced a lot of obstacles, but I’ve turned them into something beautiful. That’s really what sets me apart: being able to take the hardest times and turn them into something positive that I can share with others. My salon isn’t just a place to get your hair done — it’s a space filled with good energy, love, and strength. It’s a reflection of me.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing people feel good about themselves — watching someone leave my salon with a big smile, feeling confident and beautiful. That never gets old. I love knowing that what I do can change someone’s whole day or how they see themselves.
My family makes me happy, too. My kids are my reason for everything, and my husband — he’s honestly amazing. He’s been so supportive, so giving, and he’s really been there for me through every high and low. Seeing all of us grow together, after everything we’ve been through, is something I’m really proud of.
And honestly, what makes me happiest is growth. I love creating, learning, and evolving — whether it’s in hair, business, or life. I’m starting to move into real estate now, and even though I’ll always love doing hair, I see myself more in that “owner and manager” role in the future, letting the salon run while I keep building new things. I just love progress. I love the feeling of not stopping, of constantly pushing forward and seeing how far I can go. That’s what keeps me inspired and happy.
