Community Highlights: Meet Sam Thammahong of Nutre LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Thammahong.

Hi Sam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a 32-year-old Asian-American woman, an entrepreneur, TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) Provider, sound bath practitioner, yoga teacher, and energy alchemist. I was born and raised in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in the Midwest. My mother was born and raised in Waukesha, and my father was born in Thailand and moved to pursue his career in the U.S. at the age of 18, fearlessly. Both of my parents instilled a strong work ethic and drive to succeed. I began my career in fisheries science but soon realized that my true passion lay in healing and helping others. I earned a bachelor’s degree in marine biology emphasizing water ecology and soon landed my first job as a fisheries observer on factory trawlers in the Bering Sea. The last boat I was on was called “The Alaska Juris” and sits at the bottom of the Bering Sea. When it sank, no lives were lost, fortunately. This accurately describes my grit and determination to take on challenging tasks. After a debilitating hand injury, I transitioned into research, where I focused on receiving my master’s degree in Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Soon after, I accepted a position as a fisheries microbiologist at Idaho Fish & Game. I learned over time that the work was less fulfilling.

After several years of feeling unfulfilled, I initially began exploring alternative healing modalities to work on myself. I became a certified yoga teacher and studied various forms of energy healing. I also trained as a TRE Provider, which involves a series of exercises designed to release tension and trauma from the body. I found that these practices helped me heal from my past traumas and led me to discover my true calling. As someone who used to suffer from anxiety, I was able to put a complete halt to taking the medication I had been on for 13 years. I had a newfound way of being, including feeling truly liberated.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
When I relocated to Idaho following my completion of graduate school, I encountered a profound sense of isolation and exclusion. In addition to various adversities, I confronted numerous challenges that I ultimately triumphed over, as our inherent resilience as human beings enables us to overcome such obstacles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nutre LLC?
Today, I am the founder of my wellness company, Nutre LLC, and currently partnered with The Phoenix (Addiction Recovery Program). I am open to new partnerships that support current research on somatic practices while believing in the ability to heal as a community. It is known that our bodies want to co-regulate with those around us, and “our brains expect to be in a relationship” (1). Current psychology argues that emotions are as much an intrapersonal system as an interpersonal system (2.) The exciting part is that we don’t yet know why or how this happens. This shows how important it is to cultivate a healthy relationship with oneself through neuroception and a healthy relationship with our partners, family, and community.

I offer healing services, including TRE sessions, sound baths, yoga classes, energy work, and a blend of specific modalities to promote emotional/mental/ physical/ spiritual rest. I have developed my unique method of energy alchemy, which combines my scientific background with my spiritual practices.

My work is deeply rooted in my belief that we can all heal and optimize our well-being by reconnecting our mind, body, and spirit. I often incorporate traditional healing practices from my heritage into my work, and I am committed to making holistic healing accessible to all, regardless of their background or income level.

My journey from the sciences to healing is a testament to the power of following one’s intuition and finding true fulfillment in life. I am dedicated to helping all who cross my path access their inner warrior and heal through connection, joy, and gratitude.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very interested in nature and loved animals. I was a weird little kid who grew into an almost 6-foot-tall young woman who loved playing sports. I had my hands in a little bit of everything. Theatre, art, playing the clarinet and piano, singing, volleyball, and soccer. In high school, I received the best personality and best smile. I loved talking and interacting with different friend groups.
