Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Montijo.
Hi Rudy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got sober in 2013 at Scottsdale Recovery Center, which Chris Cohn owned at the time. A year after I left, I returned to Chris and SRC and worked for him. I helped him expand and grow his drug and alcohol treatment center. Eventually, I returned to the medical device sales field and finished my master’s degree to become a therapist. Chris and I remained friends. He called me during COVID-19 about another business idea for mental health. He had sold SRC but still wanted to help people. After researching which psychedelics were legal, he came across ketamine. Ketamine had very similar properties to psychedelics and was being used in mental health, but it was also legal. So, he had the idea for Daytryp Health. A psychedelic-assisted therapy clinic using legal ketamine, but in a setting that is traditionally found with plant medicine such as psilocybin (mushrooms). We seamlessly blend east and west. Evidence-based treatment in a sacred and ceremonial fashion. Something we learned from our former medical director. He asked if I would help him and lend my experience in sales, operations, and clinical knowledge. I loved the idea, so Chris and I worked all summer interviewing therapists and nurses and scouting locations. We found a building on 44th. St in the heart of Arcadia signed a lease, and got to work. Daytryp Health and Wellness was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. We’ve had a lot of learning experiences. We brought in Dr. Quinn Snyder, MD, to oversee our medical staff. I’ve shifted around some business models to help control costs while giving our patients the best possible care. We’ve had staffing issues and made mistakes that cost us time and money. In the process, we’ve learned much and are doing better than ever. Our unique core group is caring, competent, and professional. We’ve launched multiple verticles like our Retreats, Sunset by Daytyrp. We’ve turned the corner and are now positioned for long-term success.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Daytryp Health does ketamine therapy in a serene, holistic setting conducive to healing. We provide evidence-based treatment overseen by MDs, NPs, and RNs but offered in a non-clinical setting. The setting is designed to provide a sacred and ceremonial approach where you have a guide with you throughout your experience. This model is what sets us apart. We cultivate community with our group sessions and retreats. Our brand is a lifestyle brand. You don’t wear a T-shirt from your psychiatrist. People wear our hats and hoodies. They have cool slogans like “Change Your Mind” or “Just Keep Growing.” Sunset by Daytryp Health offers at-home ketamine treatment to patients in hospice or palliative care. We are launching our line of functional mushroom supplements, chocolates, and coffee. We are most proud of our brand because of what it stands for. Daytyrp Health is a pioneer in the ketamine therapy space. We don’t cut corners on anything. You have a world-class medical team and knowledgeable, experienced guides to provide patients with an ideal setting for an optimal experience and outcome.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Please share something that might surprise us.
I have three jobs, two kids, and do Ironman triathlons; I still do medical device sales full time and do quite well at it; I’m the COO/Co-Founder of Daytryp and oversee operations; I have a book I’ve written called Mental Legacy, being released this spring. I train for Ironman throughout the year. I do all of this around time with my two beautiful children,
