Today we’d like to introduce you to Riannon Bradshaw.
Hi Riannon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always loved babies and been fascinated with pregnancy and birth, and supporting families during pregnancy and postpartum feels like such a natural extension of who I am. For years, I worked in a variety of office jobs, but nothing ever felt like the right fit. In 2017, I first learned what a doula was, and it immediately resonated with me—especially because of my own birth experience of not feeling supported or heard. I knew it was the path I wanted to take, but the timing just wasn’t right for my family.
In 2022, I learned that my position was being outsourced and I would be laid off within a year. It felt like the push I needed to finally make this dream a reality. With my kids now well into their teens and more independent, I completed my Birth Doula training and certification through DONA International and founded Wildflower Doula Care. Shortly after, I saw the need for continued support beyond birth and completed my Postpartum Doula training and certification through DONA as well.
My core belief as a doula is that every family and every situation is unique. My goal is never to tell parents what they ‘should’ do—it’s to provide evidence-based information so they can make the decisions that feel right for them. I love getting to know each family I work with because I want them to feel like they have a trusted friend by their side during their journey into parenthood. Above all, my priority is that families feel supported, listened to, and cared for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely took a leap of faith to let go of the security of a consistent full-time income to start something new. Stepping into the unknown was both exciting and intimidating, but I’m so glad I did. Learning the ins and outs of running a business and building a presence in the community has been a challenge, but one I am trying to embrace. I’ve invested so much time and effort into my training and certifications to make sure I have the knowledge and tools to best support my clients, and I’m eager to share my passion for this work. I also couldn’t have done it without the support of the incredible doula community.
Another challenge is that many people still don’t know what birth doulas do, or they assume we’re only for certain kinds of births—like unmedicated or home births. In reality, I support all kinds of births: hospital births, births with epidurals, and even cesareans. My role is about supporting the family, not the type of birth they choose. Many parents also aren’t aware that doula support can continue into the fourth trimester.
As you know, we’re big fans of Wildflower Doula Care. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a birth and postpartum doula supporting families in the East Valley and the founder of Wildflower Doula Care. My focus is providing compassionate, personalized care, and helping parents feel confident, supported, and informed during pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks of parenthood. I provide evidence-based information, nonjudgmental support, and a gentle, personalized approach that honors each family’s unique needs and choices.
As a birth doula, I offer continuous emotional and physical support, comfort measures, and guidance so families feel empowered to make the choices that are right for them. As a postpartum doula, I support families through the transition of bringing a new baby home and recovering from childbirth by helping parents learn newborn care, assisting with baby related household tasks, providing reassurance, and even offering overnight visits to help families feel even more rested and supported.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I try to attend birth worker meetups whenever possible, there are so many amazing doulas in the Phoenix area and their friendship and support has been invaluable in helping me learn, grow, and connect with families.
