Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Baker.
Hi Patricia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve personally been in accounting for more than 25 years, and I can honestly say I’ve always loved it. A few years ago, I realized I wanted to build my own practice. I was tired of having my salary (and ultimately, my worth) dictated by an employer. I wanted to see if I could build something on my own, with unlimited earning potential, while also creating the security to save for retirement and enjoy life. That’s how Baker’s Pi was born.
The name comes from my last name combined with one of my favorite things: Pi Day. Math is fun!
The problems I seek to solve are two-fold. One is that so many entrepreneurs are brilliant at what they do, but they don’t always know how to track their finances, set up their business structure, pay themselves properly through payroll or withdrawals, or prepare for taxes. That lack of clarity can cost them in both time and money. My role is to offer them that clarity – to help them get set up, stay compliant, and make smart financial decisions.
The second problem is within the world of digital marketing, specifically. I know how to measure and report on client churn, retention, and profitability. I know what goes into packaging services for my clients’ clients, budgeting for leaner months, and planning for growth. That perspective helps me guide clients in a way that goes beyond traditional bookkeeping.
I’m not your typical accountant. I won’t make you feel like you’re in trouble for not having it all figured out. Instead, I see myself as part of your team: working alongside you to uncover your business’s financial picture and provide clarity and insight so you can make informed decisions.
Right now, I’m still building Baker’s Pi while working a full-time job. In addition, I host Facebook Live trainings on practical accounting topics. This is only the beginning for Baker’s Pi. My vision is to continue building a firm that empowers entrepreneurs, gives them peace of mind, and helps them achieve profitability. For me, it’s not just about numbers. It’s about helping business owners take control of their financial story and creating one for myself in the process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest challenges has been time. I work a full-time job while growing Baker’s Pi, which means my days are long and I have to be intentional about every hour. It’s been a test of discipline and focus.
Even though I’ve been an accountant for over 25 years, I never learned much about how to market an accounting firm. It requires a completely different skillset. I had to figure out how to present my services in a way that resonates with business owners. That meant learning about websites, social media. Facebook and YouTube Lives, and content creation – all things that are outside of my comfort zone.
Starting my own practice meant learning systems that I never had to worry about as an employee. Maintaining a website, live-streaming, setting up a client portal, experimenting with automation tools, and even just deciding what software to use for payroll and accounting. There has been a big learning curve, and I had to embrace being a beginner again in a lot of areas.
A struggle that doesn’t always get mentioned is the mental side. Leaving behind the security of a salary to bet on yourself is scary. I’ve had to push past doubts and keep reminding myself why I started: unlimited potential, independence, and the chance to create something meaningful for myself and my clients.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Baker’s Pi exists to help entrepreneurs move beyond uncertainty with their finances to confidence, clarity, and growth. We offer a tiered suite of services to meet businesses where they are: whether they just need clean books or are ready for strategic financial leadership.
We specialize in the following:
Bookkeeping & Accurate Financial Records: Monthly bookkeeping, categorizations, reconciliations, “clean books” to build a trustworthy foundation.
Accounting + Oversight: Accurate financial statements, light forecasting, budget planning, and checks on financial health.
Fractional CFO Services: For businesses ready to scale or make bigger financial decisions: projections, hiring, investing, planning, understanding margins.
Consulting / Strategy Sessions: Tailored guidance on business structure, expense tracking, payroll & benefits basics, understanding financial statements. For business owners who may not yet need full bookkeeping or CFO-level support but need direction.
What sets Baker’s Pi apart is our flexible, scalable approach to accounting. We meet business owners where they are, whether they need basic bookkeeping, strategic guidance, or full fractional CFO support, and we grow with them as their needs evolve. I focus on clarity-driven communication, making financial reports easy to understand and free of jargon so that clients can focus on what really matters in their business. More than a service provider, I position myself as a partner: a finance co-pilot who helps entrepreneurs anticipate challenges, gain peace of mind, and make confident decisions.
I’m proud that Baker’s Pi is a place where clients feel supported, not judged, and that our work provides not only compliance and accuracy but also meaningful insight through forecasting, budgeting, and strategy. My brand reflects both technical accounting expertise and a business-growth mindset, blending the precision of numbers with a practical understanding of profitability, client retention, and marketing. For readers and potential clients, I want them to know that Baker’s Pi offers more than clean books; we deliver clarity, confidence, and a strong financial foundation so entrepreneurs can take control of their future and grow their businesses with confidence.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my family and the time I get to spend with them. At the end of the day, work is not the point of life. In my mind, the point is to create memories with the people I love. Owning and operating my own business is challenging, but it’s also what allows me to provide for my family and, hopefully one day, take all of my children and grandchildren on a cruise together. That dream keeps me motivated. From a business perspective, this focus on family also shapes the way I work with clients. I want them to have the same peace of mind and freedom, to know their finances are in order so they can spend less time worrying about numbers and more time focusing on what matters most in their own lives.
