Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Altenburg.
Hi Paige, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Realtor with Hunt Real Estate, ERA, a business owner, a mother of two wonderful daughters, Autumn (6) and Ashlyn (4) and have been married for 8 years to my husband, David. I moved to Arizona 5 years ago to be close to my parents and the rest of my family. After a year of living here, I decided to change careers and open my own business to become a Realtor. Let me start by saying that was never the goal. I went to college for 6 years (4 Bachelor’s, 2 Master’s) to go into teaching. For 6 years, I taught Special Education and I loved it. I started in Colorado fresh out of my Master’s program, taught in Washington and even taught here in AZ for a year. However, after 6 years of teaching and all that goes into that my husband kindly pointed out to me that I was bringing my stress home with me, so I knew I needed to make a change.
My number one thing in my life are my girls. All I knew was teaching. So, now what?
My entire family was in sales except for my older brother. We all loved Real Estate. My mom worked Real Estate when I was younger, so I thought, why not? Let’s just say, I am an introvert, and no one thought this was the best idea, but I had nothing to lose. I began Real Estate school and talked to my previous Realtor who helped me buy and sell two homes in Arizona since we had moved to Washington. She naturally told me that I would make a great Realtor and needing to hear that, I fell for it. Somewhere between her telling me that and me going to Real Estate school I asked if she would be willing to mentor me. Although she was hesitant, she did.
That is when I signed onto, The Helping Hands Team. Nicole and I continue to work today since I got my license. The team has grown since the two of us joined together. To ensure that I am always improving, I get coached weekly by my broker, Mike Conway. I am now a team lead on, The Helping Hands Team, while Nicole Drew and Vince Davis run the team. I love being a Realtor because it is still teaching but just adults about the process of purchasing a home. I focus on giving back to teachers and schools with my commission checks.
Also, since I started in July 2019, I have earned Rookie of the Year 2020 and Mega Producer 2021. My small team of 5 was just got recognized in an ERA publication as Top 10 Sales Associates Teams In Units for Quarter 2 in 2022. I am happy with how far I have come so far.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey to where I am today has been a constant up and down challenge for me. Recently through coaching, I have realized that it is all about mindset. Mindset changes your outlook, focus, and outcomes.
When beginning Real Estate, I never had a positive mindset because I did not have the confidence in my skills as an individual in the field, a business owner and interacting with adults outside of talking about their kids. However, after overcoming those fears and learning, I have a plan everyday when I wake up. The road will never be smooth but, based on experience and feedback/reviews, I know my clients are happy with the work that I do for them, and we often end up being friends. For example, Allan (the guy giving me a headlock) is a previous client that after a long tough road of finding a home decided that is what he wanted our picture to be at our final walk-through. Another client, my family and I went to their home and spent 5 hours having pizza and went swimming with them. Two other clients have held my lockboxes hostage until I could have drinks with them.
Yes, this business has been rough, but my clients make it all worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Helping Hands Team- Realtor?
The Helping Hands Team is a team of 5 Realtors that cover the Phoenix Metro and surrounding areas. I am also on the board in Prescott and can help buy and sell homes there. Our team is a strong and unique one. We are professional when we need to be and fun when we are allowed to be. We stay current about the market, go into the office daily, go to trainings as much as possible and most importantly, we support each other. When you are working with me, you are working with my team. This is what I mean by that…I would be your main Realtor that you are working with on the transaction. If for any reason, I am unavailable, I have 4 “back-up’s” to show homes, go to inspections, do a final walk-through, answer any questions, etc. Our team is successful because we watch out for the best interests of our clients. My business is successful because of the hard work I put into it every day and my clients can see this in the work I do. It is also successful because of my team.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. When I moved from Washington state to Arizona, I bought a home site unseen. My mom, who already lived here, knew someone who connected me with her. It is funny because I will never forget the day that I met her. It was on the 4th of July of 2017. We walked into the home we just bought and her and her grandma came walking down the stairs all dressed up in 4th of July attire. That was the day that I met my future mentor, Nicole Drew. When I decided to change careers, I was already taking a leap of faith. I knew I would need help, so I reached out to Nicole and asked for help. The fear of her rejecting me was on my mind but her but my introverted self reached out to her. Every career is challenging but when you have someone there in the office cheering you on it makes all the difference. I know that my business will continue to grow into everything I have planned.
