Community Highlights: Meet Mustafa Uygur of MICROFIX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mustafa Uygur.

Hi Mustafa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came to US from Istanbul, Turkey in August, 2016 with the intention of starting my own business. It took a couple of months to conduct business feasibility and market research before I made my final decision. A friend of mine mentioned to me about expanding his business and said he was looking for a partner or an investor to open more repair shops in Arizona. I accepted his offer and we became partners when I opened my shop. The first three months was very slow but was hopeful that things would be fine in a short time and it did so after i started marketing through Google, Yelp and Groupon. That made a considerable change in the sales. Four or five months later, the shop became more and more popular in the neighborhood. This is the end of the 9th year and is one of the top 3 repair shops in the city.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never a smooth road in the first place as I was in a completely different sector from my previous career and in a different country that I did not know the business rules much about. I made several minor mistakes during the first months like not using the social media sufficiently, but learned a lot from my mistakes. Each mistake gave me more motivation and willing to work harder. Understanding the customers’ needs and expectations was another big challenge as I was not very familiar with the culture. For example, it was customary to return a product if not satisfied and businesses would not give you a hard time accepting your return. In the country where I was born and raised, there should be a serious fault in the service or product in order to return it, which means returning an item is not that easy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Microfix is an electronic repair shop specialized in repairing cellular phones, tablets, laptops and gaming consoles. We use original OEM parts and offer a 12-month warranty after repair. Plus, we have a “Price Matching” Policy and can match local competitors prices if they also use original parts. When customers bring their devices in, we provide FREE diagnostics and usually try to make the same day delivery depending on what device it is and what problem it has. Our priority is 100% Customer Satisfaction. We also have a Mobile Repair Service and can pick up broken devices and drop them off after repair if within 10 miles . Last but not least, we offer 20% OFF First Repair discount and 5% OFF Student discount.”

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I hired a business consultant that guided me through my journey and gave me a lot of helpful advice upon starting the business as he was also a businessman. I did not have much knowledge about the tax system or credit system here and had to consult him for the first few years.
