Community Highlights: Meet Markie Mullins of Sukha by Markie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Markie Mullins. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been interested in astrology since I was a little kid but never thought it was a viable career path. It was always more of a hobby and fell to the back burner throughout high school and college. While studying at ASU, I decided to major in business entrepreneurship because I knew I wanted to own my own business someday. After graduating, I moved to NYC and worked for start-ups for about 5 years. During that time, I had a major shift in priorities when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I realized how much I valued freedom and flexibility in my work life, how I wanted to prioritize spending quality time with friends and family, and how I no longer wanted to pursue anything that didn’t bring me joy or help me grow. From there, I started a multi-year journey to begin having more control of my schedule and my days. I made a big financial sacrifice by choosing to work mostly part-time and remote. However, it gave me the freedom I so deeply desired and the time I was previously lacking. I simultaneously started seeking out things that made me happy. I traveled to India to receive my yoga teaching certificate, I started exploring spiritual topics again, adventuring as much as possible, prioritizing my family and friends, and picking up new hobbies. Eventually, I knew I needed to close the chapter of working for another company but was having a hard time making the jump. The Universe decided to make the decision for me when I was let go from my company at the beginning of 2021. The same week, I received a scholarship to study astrology, and my life very quickly changed! I realized I needed that door to close to fully enter a new chapter. Since then, I went full force into starting my business – creating an LLC, a business bank account, a website, social media, finding clients, and so much more. I offer astrology readings, private/group yoga classes, and oracle cards readings. I hope to continue to add to my list of services as well. It has been one of the most rewarding, exciting, and scary journeys I’ve ever been on, but I’m loving every minute of it and I’m so happy to be following my heart. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! One of my biggest concerns to this day is the uncertainty related to income. I’ve had a job and a consistent paycheck since I was 15 years old, and making this jump has been scary, but I’m practicing the art of trust and patience. I was also overwhelmed and confused when it came to setting up the business basics like an LLC and website. However, I learned by taking it one step at a time and being patient with myself, I could make a little bit of progress every single day. One of my biggest lessons has been to just start and try even if I’m unsure of myself – this helps me from becoming stagnate and overanalyzing the situation. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sukha by Markie offers astrology readings, oracle card readings, and private or group yoga instruction. Birth chart readings give you insight into your life lessons, sole purpose, personality, career, and most importantly, compassion for yourself and your life experiences, oracle cards are provided to give you insight from the Universe and your spirit guides, and yoga classes are designed to practice breathwork and find mindful movement within the body. I also offer periodic retreats throughout the year located both locally and internationally. The retreats focus on a range of topics related to yoga, astrology, manifestation, wellness, and spirituality. 

While many times astrology readings and similar services are quite expensive for the average person, Sukha by Markie wants to make sure these services are widely accessible so she offers a sliding scale payment option. 

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I really encourage everyone to evaluate their priorities and values at least 1-2x per year. Take the time to write down your goals and make a vision board. Once you do this, evaluate how you spend most of your days/weeks/months. If you’re not reaching your goals, hold yourself accountable to readjust how you spend your time so you can be more aligned with your values. Life is truly what you make it – why not reach for your wildest dreams?
