Community Highlights: Meet Lily Olvera of Leo Photo Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Olvera.

Hi Lily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved the thought of capturing life’s precious moments. This desire was tapped into while taking a photography class in high school but was really cemented later in life. I would have to say there were two main events that inspired this journey for me. One, would be the passing of two dear family members which made me realize what a gift photography truly is. It allowed us to look back on fonder times, celebrate the lives that were lived and pass on their legacy through those moments in time that we captured. The second, would be the birth of my daughter. I soon came to find out children grow so quickly! The innocence and wonder of a child are inspiring and something worth capturing. I think one of the greatest gifts I could give my daughter is to allow her to see herself the way I do, and photography allows me to do that. With these two passions and the unmatched support of my incredible husband, Leo Photo Company was created. We pride ourselves on providing top notch products along with an amazing experience. We strongly believe people will always remember how you made them feel and kindness is a gift everyone could use more of. With these principles in mind, hard work and incredible word of mouth our company has seen great growth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would have to say one of my biggest struggles was believing in myself and getting out of my own way. I think often times as humans we fail to realize what we are capable of. We are quick to think others have the potential to do great things but then doubt ourselves. With the combination of my faith, loving husband and caring family, the thought of imposter syndrome grew smaller and smaller. In addition, it can all feel like a balancing act between prioritizing family and doing your best not to neglect daily responsibilities. Open communication and a trusted circle go a long way to making it easier.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I am so grateful and fortunate to have multiple people come to mind with this question. I could really go on and on, but I’ll narrow it down to three. My husband, Israel who has always believed in and supported this dream. Whether that is offering a word of encouragement, investing financially in the business or taking care of our daughter so I can work productively, along with so many other things. My father-in-law who has offered invaluable council and mentorship that has helped Leo Photo Company grow. He has also never hesitated to extend a helping hand. Last but not least, my incredible mother-in-law. She was my first ever paying customer and biggest cheerleader. Any photography opportunity that comes up, I am the first person to pop in her mind. She eagerly shares how proud she is of Leo Photo Company and all we have accomplished. My business would not be what it is without them.
