Community Highlights: Meet Laura and Scott Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura and Scott Bailey.

Hi Laura and Scott, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My husband, Scott, and I felt the need to make a change in our lives about seven years ago. We wanted to minimize our collection of material things, so we sold our home and belongings, purchased an older 5th wheel, and began to travel: destination unknown!

We both enjoy meeting and spending time with people, and found the perfect spot for us in the wilderness area near Aravaipa Canyon, managing Aravaipa Farms Orchard and Inn. The farm and inn is a beautiful location where folks come to experience quiet beauty, hike, birdwatch, sit by the pool, and take in nature.

We have 5 casitas, a farmhouse, and an airstream that are rented at a two-night minimum. Because of our location, we have spotty wifi, and no TVs in the casitas, so guests are able to reconnect with themselves and nature. We work to make their stay as memorable as possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have a great staff here that allows us to provide guests with a relaxing stay, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all easy!

The farm is situated next to Aravaipa Creek (it crosses right over our driveway) and monsoon season can sometimes flood the creek. When this happens, the crossing is impossible until the water subsides, We like to say, “It is always better to be on this side of the creek” because an extra night at the inn is always welcome!

We are always busy; there are never enough hours in the day, but when we see guests appreciate their experience at the inn, it is all worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Aravaipa Farms is an orchard and inn, located between Phoenix and Tucson, next to the Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness Area.

The inn offers a unique, rustic lux experience in five individual casitas, a three-bedroom Farmhouse, and a luxury Airstream trailer, that inspires guests to disconnect from the demands of daily life and embrace nature.

Views include a fruit-filled orchard, the mountains, and a pool. Guests enjoy hiking, birding, or happy hour with our chickens during the day. During the evening, the milky way overhead offers the best stargazing in the area.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
Scott and I took a huge risk in leaving our careers, home, and life we had. But, we found experiencing more of life to be worth it! The ups and downs all add to the adventure, and we love it all.

Pricing:

  • $189-599 (depending on the casita chosen) per night.
