Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Adams
Hi Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Phoenix and have always loved writing and connecting with people. I discovered my love for Journalism in high school and decided to major in it when I attended the University of Arizona for my undergraduate degree (Bear Down!).
After graduating, I decided to go another route and began a job in auto insurance in Tucson. As luck would have it, a position in Internal Communications at their corporate office in Washington D.C. opened up, and I was able to move there and start my career in Communications and Marketing.
I spent six years in Washington D.C., working in various positions, including Internal Communications, Public Relations, Partnership Marketing and Social Media. I also had the amazing opportunity to attend Georgetown University and receive my Master’s Degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications.
After six years, I decided to move back to Phoenix to be closer to my family. I started my own consulting business called LM Communications but decided to move to a full-time position at a local cancer hospital. I loved working with patients and found a new professional love in writing patient stories and building influencer programs.
After my time at the hospital, I decided to pursue a position in entertainment and worked for a regional movie theatre company. It was wonderful to be a part of the studio and movie world and I was excited to be able to help with events, partnerships, social and digital advertising and many other parts of their marketing program.
After nearly eight years there, I decided to focus on being a mom and building my own consulting business, LM Communications. During that time, I had the great luck to connect with Amber Reiter with Jazmine’s Journey. I was inspired by their story and the way that her family and friends channeled their grief into this amazing way to help other families and encourage pediatric cancer research.
Today, I work at a printing and marketing company and serve on the board of Jazmine’s Journey. I feel so lucky to continue to work within the marketing industry and to be able to split my personal time between helping Jazmine’s Journey and spending time with my family.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most people, there have been challenges along the personal and professional path. However, I have been incredibly lucky to have the unwavering support of my family and friends and that has always helped me through the struggles. I always try to be positive and see a silver lining whenever possible. I believe that, along with the love and support from my friends and family, have helped me during the tough times.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started LM Communications to help provide small and medium-sized businesses with the marketing services they need to differentiate themselves and highlight their unique services. I provide social media support, digital advertising services, writing assistance and strategic planning. My goal is to provide marketing services that help the person or business share their authentic message with a targeted audience to help grow their business.
Currently, my work with LM Communications is focused on helping Jazmine’s Journey grow and expand their efforts to help families who have children battling cancer.
Jazmine’s Journey’s mission is to honor the life of Jazmine, a young and courageous soul who touched the lives of many during her battle with infant leukemia.
The team is passionately dedicated to taking steps toward finding a cure for pediatric cancers by organizing meaningful events that serve as powerful fundraising platforms for cutting-edge research and family support.
I see how our work helps families in some of their hardest times, and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of an organization that offers that help every day.
