Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Timmons.
Hi Kyle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After college I worked as an actuary for insurance companies until I realized that wasn’t really my calling and switched to the exact opposite career as a mediator providing mediation services in employment disputes, divorce and child custody disputes, contract litigation and EEO claims. After over 20 years of providing mediation services to a wide variety of clients, I retired from the mediation business and once again started my career over and now own and operate an Office Evolution franchise in the Greater Phoenix area of Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, Mesa and surrounding communities. Office Evolution delivers Executive Office Space, co-working and work spaces, meeting rooms, etc. to help entrepreneurs and start-ups grow and succeed with their small business. With an emphasis on customer satisfaction, customer service, flexibility, and entrepreneurship, Office Evolution is the Small Business go-to for start-ups and small businesses wanting to professionalize and expand their business allowing the member to focus on their business rather than managing logistics, screening phone calls or working at the local coffee shop.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’ve had several obstacles and challenges with our business: The first was building the brand awareness in the Phoenix market as we were the first Office Evolution location in the Valley; Establishing ourselves in the community – we were new to Arizona and the valley when we moved from Colorado to open the first Office Evolution location here. But the community and the business community specifically are so welcoming to new small businesses and supportive of our efforts – it has been rewarding to see that support and genuine happiness for the successes we have had; Over the years we have had many personal challenges, but the support and encouragement of our friends, peers, families and neighbors has always given us the motivation to build on that support and thrive.
Finally, there was this thing called the pandemic – you might have heard about it on the news – we had our best month ever in February, 2020 and were well on our way to a terrific business year. Then COVID-19. While in many respects business-wise it could have been much worse, we certainly felt the effects of the last year. But, we are building back up and expect later this year our business will have not only survived the pandemic but will ultimately be well-positioned as a result of the pandemic and changing work habits and locations.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the franchise owner of the Office Evolution Phoenix in the Ahwatukee neighborhood of Phoenix, Arizona. As such I am responsible for supporting our manager, helping with marketing and brand awareness of our location, identification of and expansion of future locations, overall business direction and community involvement.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Office Evolution’s industry of executive offices, coworking and shared workspaces and virtual office services has been on the rise for many years – and has really taken off in the last few years. Interestingly enough, the COVID-19 pandemic has jump-started the trend even more in-so-much as many, many companies, entrepreneurs, and remote workers have realized that they can be productive from somewhere other than the 45th floor of a downtown high-rise. So much of the workforce has worked from home for much of 2020 and been fairly successful at it. Nevertheless, something is missing. While work-from-home has often been the norm, workers miss the social interaction of seeing other people in the office. They need professional, business-like locations to conduct meetings and require business services like reliable business-class internet access, business addresses, and meeting space. All of this has fueled the rise and expansion of the industry and the we are well-poised to provide those services in our suburban locations as we emerge from the pandemic.
