Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Limon.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, my name’s Jonathan. Everyone I know refers to me as Limon. I’m an Arizona native. I was born in Yuma and raised in Somerton, a couple of miles south of Yuma. This is where I was raised and what shaped me into who I am today. A small city right off the border, I immediately knew what it meant to grind and hustle as I saw so many people try to do what they could for themselves and their families.
My siblings and I were all firstborn in the States; my parents immigrated here from Mexico and didn’t bring much with them. Not having anything to call their own, they had to set the foundation for us to build roots here. Growing up, life was limited, but we always made the best of it. I learned the importance of working at a very young age. I was also exploring my interests in art and music, which I am still very passionate about. I wanted to learn everything about the process when exploring my artistic side.
To get where I wanted to, I knew it wouldn’t be a traditional or corporate route. I knew I had the mind of an entrepreneur and a creative artist. I wanted to build something for myself that was my own. I went to school for business, graduating from ASU last December with a degree in Organizational Leadership. I also actively participate in the type of work and art I produce daily.
To get where I am today, I’d say it has much to do with the discipline and accountability I hold on. I always believed if you wanted something done right, you’d have to do it yourself. I didn’t grow up with the guidance needed to pursue my dreams, so I had to learn to become my teacher and study and practice until I learned and understood what it would take to get where I wanted to be.
I became interested in business, which eventually led me to real estate. As challenging as it can be rewarding, it has various ups and downs like anything else. My childhood experiences are to blame for my drive to improve. I continuously focus on my development while focusing on my craft as a creative artist.
This year, I decided to do things differently and dive into my interests by focusing on my goals and how I can best serve others for long-term and short-term success. I am building myself as a real estate agent and photographer in the Phoenix Valley. These 2 entities will lay a foundation for my work, managing a business and creative exploration.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any entrepreneur will tell you how challenging it is to begin a new business, let alone two. I’d be lying if I said nothing is harder than getting your feet off the ground and finding your niche in the market when you’re new. It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it hasn’t been difficult. I embrace all the challenges thrown my way as a learning experience. With real estate, practicing my sales tactics and working on my marketing/branding is something new and exciting at the same time. To this day, I continue to work on plans to grow my business and impact the market. Finding my target audience is key. I also thank my mentors and leaders for teaching me things I didn’t know before and always making time to listen to my ideas. With photography, it has been a self-teaching journey.
Within the first 2 months, I mastered the basics of handling and working my way with a camera. Moving onto more advanced techniques has been a small struggle in my books, yet I can improve on it as I continue to practice my craft, adding a touch of my personal style to my work. My biggest struggle on my journey is finding the gray area where my talents blend and benefit one another. My vision for my future is to maintain my real estate business, servicing my clientele while exploring my talent for creating art through photography and music.
For now, I’m focusing on sharpening my sword by learning more about camera equipment, what techniques to use and when, and building my photo portfolio, which is currently in the works. I will then use these same business tactics to market my real estate brand, which I’m currently working on, building from the ground up. Eventually, I would like to use my photography to market my passion for music. Finding that balance that works for me is tough, but I do not let that drag me down or discourage me from building myself and connecting to who I truly am.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JLimon Realty?
My business, JLimon Realty, is in the real estate industry. Brokered to JMG Real Estate, I’m a realtor servicing the community of first-time buyers, Latinos, and homeowners, focusing on Phoenix and surrounding areas. I take pride in educating my clients in the industry while providing a great service to their needs when purchasing/selling a home. What sets me apart from other brands is how I will stand out. I want to provide my best service to people while displaying the truest version of myself and who I am. My work will be recognized for the personality I carry. This creative outlet of branding and marketing will help build me with my other ventures and help me start leaving my footprint. My creativity is known as JLimon, and my plans to venture into a freelancer are already underway. As I develop my portfolio, I will begin offering services with photography to assist others in building their brands/businesses.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define my success by my opportunities. The more opportunities I have presented before me result from the hard work I’ve already put in. I am successful by continuously having the time to develop my business more. Beginning a business from nothing is hard, and having continuous opportunities only shows you are taking the right steps in the right direction. When I reflect on my progress from time to time, I always pay attention to the position I’m currently in and how much it’s developed from the month before. Measuring my success only drives me to want more for myself. I’m thankful to be where I’m at now. As an entrepreneur, having the ability to work on more than one business project at a time is success in itself being self-driven and self-made takes up so much time, and to be able to divide that time among several things is rewarding itself. Not only do I get to work on myself as a professional, but I also get to stay true to myself and work on myself as an artist.
