Community Highlights: Meet Joanna Boyer of Spin Art Nation Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Boyer.

Joanna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before I became the owner of Spin Art Nation Phoenix, I was a Speech-Language Pathologist, working closely with people recovering from strokes and other neurological challenges. My days were spent helping individuals rebuild their communication and cognitive skills. The work was profoundly rewarding, not just for restoring abilities, but for reigniting joy and confidence in those I served.

For as long as I can remember, creativity has always been part of me. Inspired by my grandmother, a sculptress who shaped imagination into reality, I’ve long believed in art’s power to heal, connect, and inspire. So, when I sought a new chapter that could blend my love for human connection with my creative spirit, Spin Art Nation Phoenix caught my heart. Stepping into its vibrant, colorful studio, I felt an immediate spark. It wasn’t just about paint and canvases; it was joy in motion, boundless creativity, and a space where people of all ages and abilities could come together.

Owning Spin Art Nation Phoenix feels like a full-circle moment. What was once a personal passion has now become my purpose, and I’m grateful every day to share this joy with the Phoenix community. From families laughing over splattered paint to teams forging lasting memories or children discovering the magic of color, this studio is a celebration of creativity, community, and connection.

I look forward to welcoming you to the studio so we can create something beautiful together!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When the opportunity arose to purchase Spin Art Nation Phoenix, I jumped at it immediately. While I’ve always been a calculated and detail-oriented person who doesn’t typically act impulsively, this venture just felt right. It was a unique chance to blend creativity, community, and business in a way that deeply resonated with me, and I haven’t looked back.

Although I don’t live in Arizona, I recognized early on that strong leadership from a distance begins with trust and connection. I spent the first three weeks of ownership fully immersed in the studio; working alongside staff, learning day-to-day operations, and most importantly, getting to know my team as individuals. I believe in leveraging each person’s strengths and passions in order to help them grow personally, alongside the business.

The early days of any new venture are equal parts exhausting and exhilarating. The learning curve has been steep, but I embrace it wholeheartedly. I’ve poured my energy into creating a positive culture, and I see that investment reflected in my team’s enthusiasm and commitment. There’s a shared spark and I truly believe it’s just the beginning of something great!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Spin Art Nation Phoenix is a hands-on creative studio offering a variety of immersive art experiences designed for all ages and abilities. From the mesmerizing technique of spin art, the playfulness of our splatter studios, the relaxing nature of our fluid art experiences and the stress relief brought by our rage rooms, we provide a space where everyone can unleash their creativity in a fun, judgment-free environment.

What sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity and joy. We’re not your typical art studio; our experiences are designed to bring people together across generations and interests. Located in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, we’ve quickly become known for our vibrant atmosphere, welcoming staff, and one-of-a-kind offerings. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of creating a space that fosters connection, self-expression, and play. We’re more than just an art studio – we’re a destination where creativity meets community.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
One of the most exciting aspects of owning a creative space is the freedom to evolve alongside trends. Over the next 5–10 years, I see the art experience industry continuing to grow as people seek more hands-on, screen-free, and immersive activities. There’s a rising demand for experiences that promote wellness, creativity, and connection and our studio is uniquely positioned to meet that need.

We’re already seeing a shift toward experiential gifting, interactive entertainment, and art as a form of self-care. As a business, we’re excited to adapt, grow, and continue offering experiences that inspire and bring people together.
