Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Taylor.
Hi Jeremy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Most great things come from humble origins. I’m not so brazen to say I’m great, but Blue Ribbon Stem started from a simple idea and has evolved into a practice with a bright and limitless potential. Most serious athletes have similar experiences to mine: I trained, I competed, I excelled… until I got injured. And like most serious athletes, I didn’t want it to hold me back from what I love. I had surgery, completed my physical therapy faithfully, and continued applying what healthy principles I knew. With all that, my knee returned to about 80% of what it used to be prior to the injury. Every sprint, every squat, every jump was a reminder of what I had lost. I thought to myself, “there has to be a better way”.
As a board certified nurse practitioner, I have an advantageous understanding of what options are available for someone in my situation. But, the medical curriculum taught and endorsed in the university setting follows a standardized, single-sided, “my-way-is-the-only-way”, utilitarian methodology. This is often seen infiltrating into hospital systems, chain clinics, and large health organizations. Who hasn’t asked for an alternative in one of these environments and been told, “that’s against our policy”, or “that’s not protocol”? This meant that many alternatives were inaccessible, unknown, and even vilified. One of these alternatives is regenerative medicine.
I have first hand experience trying to sift, verify, and cross-examine what is true and what is conjecture concerning many regenerative therapies. It can be exhausting, confounding, and overwhelming for professionals, let alone for the average patient! I thought, “there has to be a better way”.
I wanted to work in this field. The idea that I can utilize the body’s innate healing pathways and collaborate with it biochemically toward tissue regeneration was stirring. The only places I could find people practicing the basic therapies were MedSpas (for aesthetics), chiropractic-founded wellness centers, and a few naturopathic clinics. I found a few orthopedic surgeon practices that offered a therapy here or there on the side, but seeing as how many of these therapies aren’t mainstream (or insured), it made sense I rarely found them regularly utilized there. I thought, “there has to be a better way”.
After having been employed by too many places that didn’t know what they were doing, and not desiring to join an orthopedic group that rarely practiced regenerative medicine, I knew if I wanted to do something right, I would have to do it myself.
Blue Ribbon Stem is just that, it is the better way! We are experienced, we are passionate, we are accessible, we are transparent, and we are constantly proving and improving regenerative therapies for tissue healing. Since treating my own knee with our therapies, it is back to 95%, feeling better than it has for the past decade. We have many cases just like mine, with similar positive outcomes improving quality of life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is the right road ever smooth? We have had a learning curve and have made our share of suboptimal choices. That being said, we have also seen the providence of God, and rewards from strong effort and wise foresight.
One thing we have struggled with is the work load. Part of our business model is keeping overhead low so that we can keep prices low. But having less staff puts more weight on our existing staff. Finding a balance between too much staff and not enough staff is an ever-changing challenge, and one that many small businesses share.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a ortho-regen practice, meaning we provide cutting edge regenerative therapies for musculoskeletal injuries and degeneration. Joint pain and muscle/ligament injuries limit how people live and what they can accomplish. If left untreated, these limitations grow substantially, and options for treatment quickly diminish. It’s a progressive decline usually: first you can’t quite run as far or lift as often, then you stop having the confidence to jump or it hurts to do so, then you find weakness setting in, then reduced range of motion, then locking or collapsing of the joint, other compensating joints start complaining, etc. The current covered medical market usually jumps from NSAIDs like ibuprofen, to physical therapy, to steroid injections, to surgery. Rinse and repeat the cycle until you are half robot, the NSAIDs have dissolved your stomach and liver, and you are immobile.
We break this traditional cycle and present minimally invasive alternatives that have real and lasting effects! No bandaids, but productive tissue correction and support. We specialize in Platelet rich plasma, Alpha 2 Macroglobulin, and adipose-derived stem graft autologous therapies. We also utilize minimally manipulated whartons jelly for homologous use, a allogenic therapy option. These are research supported, though not often covered by insurance. These are the treatments your favorite athletes and olympians are using to get back to their sport faster while avoiding surgery. We make them more accessible to the pedestrian patient, who also deserves a chance to chase their children/grandchildren, dance with their significant other, or simply walk through the grocery store as they shop.
We are proud to offer the highest quality products available, for prices at or below market value, and make them accessible with our mobile model. There are no smokes and mirrors, no gimmicks, no slimy marketing tactics, no upselling; just effective treatments from a genuine and experienced provider. Most places won’t list their prices openly, we figure it just helps you decide better if we do. We know what our treatments cost and we know that they are worth much more.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The more people we have in the general populace that take their health into their own hands, by research and by practice, the more my field of medicine grows. Regenerative medicine becomes the clearly optimal intervention once it is understood.
I also ask my peers that we elevate the quality of these therapies and rigorously demand excellence in what we do. Ridding our field of charlatans will boost patient confidence and outcomes.
Referrals from competent and caring primary care providers, physical therapists, podiatrists, pediatricians, coaches/trainers, neighbors, and orthopedists are happily received. Send your friends, families, and patients our way and we will help them recover what is missing or damaged.
