Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Croll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Croll.

Jennifer Croll

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in the charming town of Los Gatos, California, I had always been a boutique shopper and an advocate for shopping and dining locally to support the community. After graduating from USC, I decided to give my entrepreneurial spirit a try, and I opened my first boutique in Los Gatos in 1994. At that time, I began simply buying my favorite women’s clothing, accessories, and trinkets from my various travels. I loved finding special one-of-a-kind items to feature in my shop, and the response was great.

After 2 years, I decided to branch out by adding men’s clothing and opening 2 more shops in San Francisco, where I moved for 5 years. Living and working in the Marina in my twenties was a fantastic time. My stores were thriving, and Marina Living was a blast.

In 2000, my husband, baby, and I moved to Scottsdale, where we opened 5 more shops and later added boutiques in Highland Park, Dallas, and Newport Coast. From 2005-2008 I developed a boutique-based shopping district in downtown Scottsdale to highlight local designers and boutique owners. This fantastic project, in which I collaborated with the talents of many other local business professionals, was one of my most challenging and rewarding accomplishments.

In 2009, after the global financial crisis of 2008 and while attending the OPM Program at Harvard Business School, I decided to close my shops because supporting the high rent of my locations was no longer financially viable. Although it was the right business move, this was a tough decision that made me look to redefine my identity and career. I worked as a consultant for other businesses in real estate and the boutique industry, looking to navigate this financially challenging time.

Upon graduating from the OPM Program, I decided to re-emerge on the boutique scene with my designs. I re-opened my first shop in Los Gatos in 2012. Living back in Los Gatos was a wonderful time in which I was surrounded by family and had the joy of watching my children grow up and graduate from my alma mater, Los Gatos High.

In 2020, I moved back to Scottsdale part-time, and in 2021, I opened a “pop-up” shop at the Scottsdale Quarter to try out the market again. It was wonderful to realize how many previous clients remembered my shops and welcomed me back to the area! Still living part-time in California, I opened a “pop-up” shop in Del Mar near San Diego.

In 2023, I have the 3 permanent boutique locations carrying men’s and women’s clothing in Scottsdale, Los Gatos, and Del Mar, California.
