Community Highlights: Meet Jenesis LaForcarde of The Jenesis House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenesis LaForcarde.

Hi Jenesis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I had the opportunity to travel the world with my parents who were in the Air Force. I was lucky enough to experience so many cultures and most importantly experience my own.

Throughout my life, I have found I am the happiest when I am creating experiences. After much thought and over two years of planning, I know opening my own resort will allow me to create a healing place like no other especially for people who look like me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Less than one percent of all hotels are owned by African-American women, yet over 5 million black millennial travelers in the U.S. spent $63 billion on travel in 2018. It is our obligation to continue to elevate the curious, intelligent, inspiring leaders of the black community and remove the preconceived notion of what that looks like in hospitality.

A large investment is required when establishing a private, boutique hotel, especially when building from the ground up. Unfortunately, large amounts of capital have been difficult to secure. After looking for a property for over 14 months, I finally found the resort property that is a dream come true, and perfect for The Jenesis House. I plan to purchase the property with funding obtained from an SBA loan, as I will need 5 million to purchase the property and make the necessary renovations.

My main roadblock was not having the 10% equity to put down in order to receive the SBA loan. Fortunately, I figured it out, and I am getting even closer to my goal by crowdfunding in a unique way by selling hand-poured crystal candles made with essential oils and 100% soy wax.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The Jenesis House (JTH) is a wellness resort and spa designed for those who want to experience the true luxury of self-care while also raising awareness about the significance of mental well-being and self-care. Our objective is to provide our guests with unforgettable experiences that will forever define who they are, bringing people from all over the world.

World Health Organization (WHO) recently added “burnout” to its International Classification of Diseases, with the disease described as “chronic working stress that has not been properly handled.” Americans are overworked and overburdened. Three-fifths of Americans (60%) say they are frequently overwhelmed by the amount of work they must complete.

Almost half (51%) persons are reported being burned out regularly, putting their health and emotional well-being on the back burner. This resort was established to fill the void by providing a relaxing setting where the mind can truly relax while exploring Arizona’s mind-blowing landscape from Watson Lake, The Grand Canyon, and Sedona.
