Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Carpio.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career as a social worker in community mental health, working in a variety of roles that were meaningful and shaped me as a clinician-but also left me feeling burnt out. I eventually transitioned into group practice settings, where I really discovered my passion for individual therapy and the sacredness of the therapeutic relationship.
After a few years, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own private practice, Heal & Grow Therapy. At first, I was still working full time, so I’d wake up early, use my evenings, and spend weekends researching, learning, and slowly building the foundation of my business. I invested in consultation, an online course, and, honestly waching a lot of YouTube tutorials!
A big part of my “why” was wanting to create a career that supported both my purpose and the kind of life I wanted for myself and family. My niche has been shaped by my own lived experiences as a recovering anxious perfectionist, people-pleaser, and new mom. My own therapy journey helped me work through and overcome a lot of those old patterns, and now I find so much purpose in helping others do the same-healing, growing, and becoming.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! Like most entrepreneurs, it’s been a mix of excitement and growing pains. There’s been a lot of self-doubt, fear, and moments of imposter syndrome. Leaving the security of a steady job was scary, and learning how to actually run a business (on top of being a therapist) was a huge learning curve.
They don’t teach business ownership in grad school, so I had to figure things out along the way-marketing, finances, systems, all of it. I still don’t have it all figured out and I am always still learning, but it’s been a journey of trusting myself, giving myself grace, and remembering that growth often comes with discomfort.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Heal & Grow Therapy, we work with folks who want to break generational cycles and show up differently than how they were raised. Many of my clients are caring, high achieving people who “do it all,” but underneath, they’re managing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or the resurfacing of old wounds.
A lot of them grew up in families where emotions weren’t talked about or where they learned to stay small to keep the peace. In our work together, we focus on understanding those patterns, healing what’s beneath them, and building healthier ways to cope, communicate, and connect-with themselves and the people they love most.
We know that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so we try to create a space that feels comforting, calm, and human. Before anything else, we’re just two people in a room-each with our own story. We want clients to feel seen, accepted, and safe to show up as their full selves. In our work, we honor all parts of who they are, including the intersection of identities, culture, faith, and lived experiences that shape them.
Our approach is trauma-informed and holistic, taking a client centered and collaborative approach based on each client’s unique individual needs. We also welcome faith and spirituality into sessions when it feels meaningful for clients. Our practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally sensitive, with particular insight into the Asian American experience.
We help clients do the deeper emotional work while also learning practical tools for daily life. It’s a space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and create a life that feels more grounded, intentional, and aligned with your values.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
So many! The Conscious Parent by Dr. Shefali Tsabary and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle are books I will come back to again and again. Anything by Richard Schwartz on parts work has also been transformative in how I understand healing and inner connection.
On a spiritual level, reading scripture and spending quiet, grounded time fills me up and helps me stay centered.
Professionally, the Private Practice Skills YouTube channel (and her course) was such a gift when I was building my practice-I learned so much from her practical and encouraging approach. I also love listening to different podcasts and creators who share about growing a private practice and the “therapreneur” journey. Connecting with other therapists who are on a similar path has been huge-it helps quiet the self-doubt and build confidence that I could do it too. Hearing others share their struggles and wins made the process feel more normal, less isolating, and more empowering
