Community Highlights: Meet James Weinmann of Edward Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Weinmann.

Hi james, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I retired in 2013 after 26 years with a Fortune 500 defense contractor, where I worked first as a project engineer, then advancing into program management.

Amidst my lifelong passion for investing, teaching and helping others, in 2014 I embarked on my “second act” career as a financial advisor with Edward Jones, and it’s been a perfect fit.

On a personal note, I hold a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota. I enjoy golf, fitness, hunting and fishing in my home state of Minnesota, and am an American History buff (especially World War II).

I’m also passionate about giving back to the community and am a strong supporter of various Veterans organization, and the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any worthwhile pursuit, building a thriving business has required vision, focus, tenacity, and tapping a deep well of resilience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At our branch, we strive to bring an authentic, consistent and ultimately uplifting experience to our clients. They can expect to receive unsurpassed competence, customer service and the support of thousands of people and advanced technology behind the Edward Jones name.

As a financial advisor, I act more as a “financial guide” who prominently partners with my clients to deeply understand their goals and helps achieve them, as opposed to an investment advisor who strictly makes recommendations about investments.

We tend to work with people who have more complex requirements. For instance, we often partner with clients’ tax and legal professionals on strategies that help to protect their wealth, both now and for their legacy.

Treating people according to the Golden Rule is a tenet that I live my life by. It has allowed me to develop close friendships with my clients through a consistent ethic of integrity and positive results.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Master the soft skills of writing and speaking well. Always be curious, show sincere interest in people, and listen.
