Today we’d like to introduce you to James Palestini.
Hi James, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Palestini Law with a simple idea — that people deserve a defense that’s both fearless and personal. I began my career working in larger firms and quickly realized how easy it was for clients to become just another case number. I wanted to build something different — a firm where every client actually feels heard, where their life story matters as much as their charges.
When I opened Palestini Law, it was just me, a laptop, and a belief that doing things the right way — working harder, communicating better, and caring more — would set us apart. Over the years, we’ve grown into a full-service criminal defense firm handling everything from DUIs and domestic violence cases to complex felonies across Arizona.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the results, but the reputation we’ve built. Our clients know we fight relentlessly, but we also treat them like people, not paperwork. That’s been the foundation of our growth — authenticity, hard work, and a real commitment to giving people their second chance.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. In criminal defense, standing up for what’s right can sometimes come with real consequences. There have been moments where taking a principled stand against unfair practices led to serious pushback — including having plea offers pulled across multiple cases simply because I refused to compromise my client’s rights.
But those challenges have only strengthened my resolve. This month alone, we’ve seen 21 dismissals — 18 of those in cases were dismissed at or following a trial. It’s proof that when you stand your ground and do the work, the results speak for themselves. The road hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it every single time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Palestini Law is a criminal defense firm built on the idea that great representation means more than just knowing the law — it’s about fighting for people. We represent clients in everything from misdemeanors and DUIs to serious felony cases across Arizona. Our focus is always the same: protect our clients, tell their story, and fight for the best possible outcome.
What sets us apart is how personal we make the process. We don’t take a cookie-cutter approach to defense — every client has a different story, and we build every case around that. Whether it’s challenging flawed evidence, negotiating complex plea deals, or taking a case to trial, we treat each one like it’s the most important case in the room — because for our clients, it is.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that Palestini Law has become known for being both aggressive and authentic. We’ve earned a reputation for taking cases to trial when others might fold, and for being the kind of defense team that clients actually trust and feel comfortable with. Our firm culture, marketing, and even our social presence reflect that same philosophy — bold, real, and client-centered.
At the end of the day, we want people to know that when you hire Palestini Law, you’re getting a team that will fight for you like family, no matter what’s at stake.
How do you think about luck?
I’d say luck has played a funny role — the kind you don’t see coming but that changes everything. About a week after I opened Palestini Law, I took on a case that ended up blowing up in the media. It was covered by several major outlets — even internationally — and after I successfully got that case dismissed, I was suddenly being interviewed on camera and quoted in headlines.
That moment gave the firm instant visibility, and it really jump-started everything. But I’ve always believed that luck only takes you so far — it opens the door, but what keeps it open is the work you put in afterward. That early exposure helped get my name out there, but it’s been years of late nights, trials, and client wins that have built Palestini Law into what it is today.
