Community Highlights: Meet Clare Weech of Weechcraft Eats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clare Weech.

Hi Clare, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I worked as a tech in the ER in my hometown, during the toughest parts of Covid, and decided I had had enough. So I quit. However, I wanted to continue helping support my family and our financial needs, so I was on the lookout for something I could do from home while spending time raising my newborn.

After being disappointed with bakery options in my area, I made my own homemade cupcakes and brought some to church to share. After some people tried them, I got told, “You should start a baking business; we need something like that around here!” … so I did! It’s been just over a year now and our business has grown so much already!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been smoother than I thought it would be, but not without its challenges. The main struggle is that I have had to move out of state and try to keep my business growing in Arizona while not being there. My wonderful mom has kept things going in her small town, and thanks to support from the community, our business has been steadily growing!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started this business because I was disappointed in a box of cupcakes I had purchased and spent a lot of money on. It was from one of a few places close by that sold gourmet cakes and cupcakes, and I didn’t like that those around me didn’t have access to anything better or more flavorful. So we really work hard to make sure our cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more are the best, most flavorful, and most enjoyable they can possibly be for a reasonable price.

We’re constantly workshopping recipes, trying out new flavors, and asking for feedback so that our customers can be sure of our product. Among our wonderfully vibrant flavors/products is our signature Witch’s Brew cookie: a soft, buttery orange-infused sugar cookie, topped with homemade raspberry reduction and vanilla buttercream.

The flavor combination is extremely popular, and rightfully so – it’s fresh, zesty, and packed with beautiful, complimentary flavors. I would say we are best known for this cookie; several reviewers have stated that “It’s the best cookie [they’ve] ever had in [they’re] life.” That joy and satisfaction are what keeps us going!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’ve always been the type of person to just do things. I grew up in a small town, with not a lot going on and not a lot of readily available resources for young people to utilize. But I’ve always just thought, “How hard could it be?” when there’s been a task or obstacle in front of me.

For that reason, I’ve often been called creative. But I don’t think it’s creativity, I think it’s more just the willingness to get something done on my own without help or without just going out and buying/outsourcing whatever it is I want or need. For this reason, I was able to just *start* my own business, kind of on a whim haha.
