Community Highlights: Meet Chase Booker of Have Heart Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Booker.

Hi Chase, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting Junior year of high school after years of having breathing complications and other numerous health conditions doctors finally decided to order a chest X-ray and found that I had a tumor the size of a softball on my left lung. They found that it had suffocated my left lung and I would need the entire thing removed. Little did I know this would completely change my life. After the surgery, I had to live my life in a chair for two months, not being able to move or go anywhere. My mindset and mental health started to decline rapidly. Losing weight and muscle like crazy from not being able to move; I had to only myself to pull me out of the hole I was in. With no physical therapy or exercise routine laid out for me. If I was going to get better, it was going to have to be up to me. So by the end of the two months in the chair, I had to frame my mindset to nothing but gratitude for the position I was in. I was still breathing and at least able to move my body so nothing could stop me.

Since this experience, I try to frame my mind in a way that helps me get through the hard times where you think you can’t go any further. “life happens for you not to you” I always tell myself knowing I can do anything I put my mind to. Now there have been experiences before and after the surgery that has shaped me and changed my life in ways unimaginable. But, this was is when I first started getting interested in self-development and what later became the basis for starting my company Have Heart. There are so many people out there that are struggling just like I was and at the time, I thought I was alone in feeling like that. I’m getting to the point now where I want to share my story with people. I want more people to believe in themselves and know they can make it through anything they put their minds or heart to.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In life, there are never any smooth roads… Nothing ever goes the way you want it to and I’m learning to just adapt and react to situations every day. Since the surgery, I have had three other surgeries to remove more particles from my lung as well as other health conditions that have flared up. Such as psoriatic arthritis and an autoimmune disease called psoriasis to just name a couple. Since then though, I have adapted my exercise routines and diet to lessen the symptoms of these. These were merely speed bumps in my life though. Since then, I have run a half marathon and am training to run a full marathon here in the coming months. I will not let the past hinder what I can accomplish in the future.

As you know, we’re big fans of Have Heart Movement. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Like I said before, the brand is built on the mindset I developed back in high school. I made it for people who are like me. Who hold the same morals and principles on how they live their life. Nothing good in this life is ever given. It’s earned through hard work. Right now, the brand exists as a clothing brand but I want to expand to different mediums such as a podcast and YouTube community. I want this to be a massive community eventually. There will be events, meetups, online training, etc. Eventually, I want to open up a gym and rehabilitation center for addiction and mental abuse recovery and that’s just the beginning.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My grandparents would get me and my brothers passes to Sunrise Ski Resort for Christmas and going on our annual snowboarding trips with them and my family were always my favorite.
