Community Highlights: Meet Cari Croghan of Dr Cari FFS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cari Croghan.

Hi Cari, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After 26 years as an Emergency Physician, the moral injury was too tough to withstand the additional professional and personal load of the pandemic. Already having worked as a telemedicine physician for a year, I decided to leave my dream job that had become a nightmare. I later returned to the hospital setting for 1 more year, but found my soul was still too wounded and my life had reached a phase where it was critical to be home and available to my family. Having worked at a few telehealth jobs for years, I was encouraged to start my own online practice as well as a podcasting and public speaking business in 2025. With the loving support and cheerleading of friends, family, and fans, I have launched Dr Cari FFS and am enjoying delivering messages of inclusive and empathetic healthcare to those living in the shadows, the frustrated, lost and confused. This has become my passion project, and collaborating with like-minded health providers bolsters my resolve to fulfill this mission when I am struggling. I am determined!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I currently have about 6 jobs to keep the lights on while this new professional endeavor drains my savings and my energy. Self-doubt and defeat lurk at every corner. I question my decision to become an entrepreneur in my 50s several times per week- I’ve never done anything remotely like this, I’m too old, I’m too dumb, I’m too tired, I’m not enough, I’m too much, there’s too much to know and learn for me to succeed. I was the victim of a bitcoin scam 2 years ago which obliterated my savings and voided my income for 6 months while I fought the demonic voices in my head and attempted to seek justice. Then, my mom had a stroke in early 2024, and my father died from cancer 9 weeks later, so last year was a bust for income, as well, taking care of them and then grieving the loss of my most cherished human. So, taking on a financial drain this year is likely unwise, but the support and clamor was there, so I went for it. My current income is 1/3rd of what it was pre-pandemic, despite working 3 times as many hours per month, but I am healthier and happier and more available for joy and pleasure than I have been in 2 decades. So, perseverance is the only option. Success will be slow in coming, but it will come. Patients need my care. They deserve it! And, the world needs someone who looks and speaks like me to impart important messages that are not often delivered from the point of view of an experienced physician.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a brash, sassy, potty-mouthed, polyamorous Black Emergency Physician with tons of clinical medical experience who is down-to-earth and non-judgmental. I can deliver quality healthcare to 15 states, and I want to serve the underdogs, the shy and forgotten. Sexual, physical and mental health are all welcome here. You can’t scare me. You can’t offend me. All genders, all sexualities, all complaints and concerns are heard fully. How many times have you had the undivided attention of a physician for 50 minutes? How often do you get to discuss multiple issues on your mind without interruption? You can get the help you deserve from the privacy and comfort of your own home. I can order tests. I can prescribe. I can empathize. I can HEAR you!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I need better outreach. I have a small marketing push, but sweeping publicity to spread the word is what my online practice needs most. Public speaking, being a paid keynote speaker, is something I dream of. I’m hoping that is what our interaction with bring- eyes and ears on my message.
