Community Highlights: Meet Andrea Coy of Healing Hands By Andrea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Coy.

Hi Andrea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in massage and skincare really began in 1998. I was in a high stress job feeling unhappy and under appreciated. I decided that I wanted to make a change that would be tailored towards my needs and schedule but could make an impact on people’s lives. I wanted to love my job and look forward to doing something meaningful. I had never experienced a massage or facial myself, but I thought, wow, how awesome would it be to go to work and lift people’s spirits, promote healing, reduce stress, make someone feel and look beautiful. How rewarding is that? I was determined and I enrolled in massage therapy school in Tempe. Working full-time and going to school at night, nothing was going to deter me. Not too long after that I enrolled in aesthetics school and quickly fell in love with my new career. I started out making marketing material and going door to door in the community to market myself and get my name out there. A few years passed, and I took on different part time jobs in the industry while building my own clientele. One of those side jobs lead me to taking over the spa services at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort. I now had a busy business with a few therapists that I brought on to help. While things were going great there, I decided to pitch to takeover spa services at The Legacy Golf Resort. This was a dream! I was so busy with 16 massage therapists/aestheticians on board between the two hotels and so much of my life really blossomed while I was in this phase of my life. My husband and I got married, we adopted three siblings with disabilities, we traveled, it was so amazing. I was so busy, but finding well qualified, dependable staff began to be increasingly difficult. I was very insistent on only hiring the best and most experienced staff with enthusiastic personalities. I ended my relationship with the Scottsdale Hilton and focused everything into the Legacy Golf Resort. I spent 15 years there, continuing my education and learning different modalities to set me apart from the rest. It was a very special experience for me. The resort treated us like family, and I will always have those lifetime friendships from working so close to leadership there. As COVID came along, it was a very scary time and a time of uncertainty. I had to close my business and be at home with my children and stay safe just like the rest of the world, wondering what would become of our industry and how our lives would be forever changed. Interestingly enough, I learned for the first time in my life to take the advice I had always given to my clients. Relax, find quiet time to be present and find balance in your life, eat well, and take care of YOU!  I realized how burnt out I was and so busy with the management piece of the business, that I forgot what I love the most, being in the treatment room, hands on and with my clients. I decided that I wanted to get back into the job I loved so deeply but go back to the basics. Building my own clientele. Being excited to see my schedule and see who I will be seeing that week. Getting to know people. With repeat clients you get to see the value in your work. See them change, heal, build self-confidence, and see their lives transform through my healing hands. After 27 years of massage therapy and 25 years as an aesthetician, I am living my best life in my practice. A single salon suite doing advanced skincare and massage. Everything  from basic skincare to chemical peels and hydrofacials. I specialize in sports massage and deep tissue along with gua sha, traditional cupping and Buccal massage for TMJ and Migraine relief that actually contours the face as well. I am finally in my peaceful place!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always. Adopting and raising three special needs kids was always a balancing act. Covid was a defining time in my career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Skincare:
I use only the highest quality professional products. I use Circadia Skincare and PCA which are both corrective medical grade skincare. I offer a variety of facial treatments to hydrate, rejuvenate, and bring dull, damaged skin back to its youthful glowing healthy state. I also offer more advanced skincare to deep cleanse skin and exfoliate while adding intense nutrients and antioxidants for a more corrective treatment. Adding energy back into the damaged cells to make them more youthful and lifted. I also offer advanced skincare services like Hydrafacials, chemical peels, the Circadia SWiCH treatments, and the Circadia Luxe Lift treatments to treat aging and sagging skin.

One of my favorite services is a facial releasing fascia in the face neck and scalp. This is called Buccal Massage and not only does it help relieve face and head pain, it actually lifts and contours your face.

Massage: My 27 years of experience has been working with athletes to alleviate pain and increase range of motion. This has made my deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy my niche. I naturally feel where the tension is and can really work with the fascia to help it release.  This allows more manipulation of the tight muscles and release of the lactic acid build up that occurs in those muscles. I can feel the tension just melting away. That’s certainly not the only thing I enjoy. I love to see results with lymphatic drainage and watch people literally heal through a series of these detoxification massages. I would say that the most popular massage is my Therapeutic massage that would be a combination of some deeper work where needed and a medium pressure for the rest of the body. Another favorite is cupping. Traditional cupping is so great for releasing tight muscles, detoxing the body, and increasing blood flow. This is a method that uses cups and pumping the air out of the cup to pull the skin up into the cup. Blood flow is immediate and this draws toxins out of the body. My clients can add a complimentary aroma oil to any massage as well as hydrotherapy, moist heat to loosen the muscles up quickly which allows me to masssge deeper layers of the muscles.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?

I have networked with people in the industry and through continuing education every year. I will never stop learning and meeting new people.
