Community Highlights: Meet Analyn Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Analyn Scott.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as far back as I can remember I’ve challenged the status quo in areas that were either hurting people or at the very least stagnant and no longer benefiting them. As a teenager, I knew that I would be a businesswoman or more accurately a social entrepreneur. I envisioned having time and financial freedom that would allow me to serve people and effect positive change where my passions aligned with determined needs.

At one point I thought I would be a Civil Rights Attorney, but my path took a different course and I spent 22 years in the corporate world, with the final 14 years as a Solutions Provider in Information Technology (I.T.) Sales.

During this time another journey was taking place in tandem that was also preparing me for where I am today. In November 1997 I met my husband Raymond on a blind date and 3 months later his kidneys failed unexpectedly. He was 29, I was only 23, and neither of us had any knowledge or experience with kidney disease, let alone all that often comes with kidney failure and dialysis.

With each twist and turn in Raymond’s health journey, we continued to link arms and put one foot in front of the other, facing each challenge with faith and optimism together while also balancing a successful career.

Then, in 2014 a major shift took place that neither of us saw coming. By this time, I was administering Raymond’s hemodialysis treatments from home 5 days a week and I had the flexibility to work from home 4 days a week. I doubled what I made the previous year, but I felt very unsettled and unfulfilled. That summer I was given a mighty vision and sense of urgency that I was to help millions of people who have been waiting. I knew that I had to close that chapter to allow room for a new one to begin, so in November of 2014 I stepped out on faith and left my 6 figure/yr career.

Leaving a career that I worked tirelessly for 14 years to build has truly been a faith walk and one that I’m so grateful I took! By trading in my hat as a Solutions Provider in I.T., I was able to create 1in9 Charities, Inc. to challenge the status quo and step into my purpose and destiny to become a Solutions Provider to help improve health and save many lives… including my husband Raymond’s.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has most definitely not been smooth, but Raymond and I have gained so much wisdom, knowledge, and strength with every twist, turn, dip and rise we have encountered in our journey. From numerous health issues and complications that we learned often accompany end-stage kidney disease to financial challenges that are also common when starting and growing a non-profit or any business.

Throughout the journey, new solutions were uncovered and/or developed to solve some of the challenges and obstacles that we encountered along the way. I’ll share a few examples of how we turned obstacles into opportunities, starting with the obvious. If Raymond and I had not gone through his kidney failure journey together our nonprofit organization, 1in9 Charities, Inc, would not have been birthed.

Our main struggles in starting and expanding 1in9 centered around funding, fundraising, and the high cost of marketing and video production to create and share engaging and empowering educational videos and tools to increase public awareness of risk factors of kidney disease as well as preventative health & wellness solutions.

We built 1in9 on very tight budgets and more often than not with our own funds. Thankfully, we found our Tribe of fellow kidney disease warriors, advocates, trusted partners, and sponsors that blessed us with their time, talents, and funds to help us with our branding, marketing, publishing, videography, fundraising, media, and more to help us make an impact.

Recognizing that we would not be alone in having the need to create purpose-driven content and a trusted team to help develop and deliver it affordably, I created Shining Light Productions LLC.

Inspired by our journey I wrote, directed, and produced the documentary “A Dance With Destiny” under Shining Light Productions, with all proceeds going to 1in9. In the film, we share a gift from heaven that introduced us to a solution that proved to be lifesaving to Raymond and a game-changing puzzle piece in the fight against kidney disease. This solution inspired me to create Breakthrough Health Solutions LLC to share this discovery with the world and save more lives.

A portion of all revenue from Shining Light Productions and Breakthrough Health Solutions is donated back to 1in9 to expand our mission and reach the millions of people around the world who are waiting.

As you know, we’re big fans of 1in9 Charities, Inc, Breakthrough Health Solutions LLC, and Shining Light Productions LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
1in9 Charities, Inc. is an AZ 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that exists to change the trajectory of kidney disease and save millions of lives by raising awareness about this silent killer, promoting preventative and corrective practices, inspiring hope in those afflicted and expediting research and development of regenerative treatments and solutions.

Breakthrough Health Solutions LLC exists to provide breakthrough health solutions that get to the root of and help prevent, address, and even reverse a wide range of chronic health conditions and diseases. Our foundation is built with the purpose of helping individuals, families, and communities that are at risk of or who have been impacted by kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and/or other chronic diseases to improve their health to have more longevity and quality of life.

Shining Light Productions LLC exists to shine a light on people and organizations making a difference in the lives of others. Our purpose-driven productions create a positive impact on audiences around the world.

As a Social Entrepreneur, I’m most proud that I discovered and am walking in my purpose, and that across all of my businesses we measure success on the number of lives that we can positively impact.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe that throughout various seasons the right mentors show up in our lives when we need them, and they may be in our lives just for a season or for many seasons. One may plant a seed, another may provide nutrients, while others come along the way and water the seeds to help us grow and blossom.

Some mentors can be people you’ve never met before that can inspire and impart knowledge and wisdom from afar.

Sometimes we intentionally seek out a mentor with a specific gift, talent, or expertise that can help us with a specific need, but more often I’ve experienced that the best mentors have come to me organically at unexpected times and in unexpected ways.

I’ve been very fortunate to have great mentors throughout my life, from those very close to me to those whom I’ve never met (or haven’t met yet).

One example I’ll share with you is Oprah Winfrey. I was 12 years old when the Oprah Winfrey Show began and I would rush home from school every day to watch it. As other talk shows began popping up to compete for ratings with controversial guests and topics, Oprah intentionally provided more inspirational and empowering content and guests over the 25 years that her show aired. From the Oprah Winfrey Show to her books, Oprah’s Book Club, O magazine, her OWN network, and more, Oprah has continued to positively impact me and millions of other people worldwide. She instilled a belief in me that there are no limits to what I’m able to create, especially when I’m intentional about making a difference in the lives of others.

I’ve learned to be mindful, humble, and grateful for the mentors that God has put in my path… and for those He has put in my path for me to mentor.
