Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Robertson.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
BackSwing Golf Events was started in 2015 by myself and my business partner McKenzie Lyng. We were professional golfers and saw a need to help charities on the golf course.
The company was a way to support our playing careers financially while also donating to charities in need. As we grew we started to realize the impact we could make for not only charities but Women’s Golf.
Every professional golfer struggles financially to pursue their dream and this was a way to keep them working while not pulling their focus away from golf.
We grew from doing 150 events in 2018 to 450 in 2019 and closed out 2021 reaching 800+ events. We have raised millions for charities over our seven-year run and continue to grow hoping to reach 1250 events for 2022.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Any business has its bumps for sure and a start-up company is always a challenge. Both McKenzie and I were 25 when we started this business and we had to learn as we went.
I call any start-up a Lemonade Stand because while hoping to turn it into a real business you never know if it will make it to that point. I think our transition from start-up to a full-running company was our biggest obstacle.
Running with momentum is scary and decisions get harder as you grow. Overall the journey has been great but didn’t go without a lot of difficult decisions.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a golf entertainment company that fundraises for charities on the golf course.
We place professional female golfers on the course and they fundraise for the charity at hand. We not only fundraise but provide memorable and unique experiences for the players on the course.
We are known mostly for our ‘Beat the Pro’ Challenge but we also provide lots of different options to clients for on-course activities. I am most proud that our brand has held firm to our core values and as we continue to grow we have stuck to them throughout.
We are a group of female professional golfers who want to support women’s golf and the charities that we raise money for.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a lot of hobbies outside of golf but most people don’t know music is a huge part of my life.
From the time, I was little I’ve sung and it is something that will be with me forever. Music is so great for the soul and is how I decompress.
