Check out Xach’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xach.

Xach was born in New Jersey, and moved to Phoenix, Arizona as a young child. This move resulted in encounters and exposure to many different backgrounds and cultures that influenced his life from an early age. He is currently pursuing a BFA in Studio Art: Painting from the Herberger Institute for Design at ASU. While also studying film, Religion/Philosophy, and Design. His work centers on vibrant colors, kitsch and cute objects. Recently Xach has been showing his work publicly throughout the valley from the Goodyear Public Library to Tempe and even The Space Center Houston in Houston, Texas.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Although, Xach’s work may be filled with bright vibrant and energetic colors and characters, looking beyond the surface there are themes of death, self-introspection, fear, and mental health struggle. These childlike and radiant colors pull and engage the viewer into the discussion of such serious and crucial topics while making it easier to digest and conceptualize. With this work there is a painful reality. Like swallowing a sugary sweet yet bitter pill; comforted and reassured by the soft and innocent smiles of the characters. Paul Klee once said, “The more horrifying this world becomes, the more art becomes abstract”, in this case… becoming cuter.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Art can be lonely and stressful, but if you feel you need to make a change reach out to your local artists communities by going to your local First Fridays, gallery openings, Third Thursdays, Artlink organizations and other resources in your area. Google some art events going on in your area, take some courses at a local college or university, look at city web pages for artists and art. It won’t be easy at first, it will feel like you aren’t making progress and you probably won’t make friends and know a bunch of names at first, but if you keep going and set small goals for yourself each time, you’ll begin to find more and more leads and connections to people around you!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Xach’s work is currently on Display at the Graduate Hotel in Tempe for the Graduate Tempe Biannual Show through November 2018. For more of his work you can visit Xach on Instagram at: Xach_artist.
