Today we’d like to introduce you to Velia Rincon.

Velia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up I always had a passion and desire to travel. When I was ten years old, my mother would take me hiking and camping. I really enjoyed it because being in nature gave me such a sense of comfort and it also kept a close relationship to my mother. About a year ago that I started to get really serious into my own fitness journey. Working out provided me with so much motivation to strive towards my own goals and it gifted me with inner strength. I decided I wanted to motivate others to work hard towards their own goals so they could fulfill their passions in life. One day I came across two books that gave me an idea of what I could create. The first one was ‘Into the Wild’ by Jon Krakauer. The second was ‘Wild’ by Cheryl Strayed. These two people went on their own hiking journeys which unfolded a plethora of self-discovery. I decided that’s exactly what I wanted to do. Over the next year, I planned out and researched a hiking trip that I could take on for myself. I finally decided to adventure onto the Appalachian trail. To inspire others, I decided to take them along my journey by documenting my experiences through photography & video. That’s how I created Rex-trekkin. A blog about my journey into the wild.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create YouTube videos and blog posts through my Instagram about my hiking adventures! My aspiration is to influence people to follow their own desires and journeys that they want to go on. I want others to see that anything you want to create in life is possible. I form my art through my videos, pictures and stories about my trip.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Going on this hike was a big financial decision and came with a lot of challenges. I did not have a camera to bring along with me, so instead I just decided to use my phone! I also budgeted out things and just knew that everything would work out best case scenario. If you are wanting to create art or even start up your own YouTube just know that you don’t need anything fancy to start it up! Everyone starts somewhere and it’s about doing not wishing. Use the tools you have around you and everything will eventually unfold for you.
