Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Honaker.

Troy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story isn’t your typical “I grew up with a camera in my hand” kind of thing that you hear all the time. I originally started as an accountant; actually, I graduated from ASU with a degree in Accounting/Finance. I spent two years working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms only to realize that wasn’t for me. I wanted to do something in the creative field. I always liked video editing, so I bought a camera and haven’t looked back since.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a videographer based out of Tempe, AZ. I specialize in music and wedding videography and I also direct the occasional music video. Whether it is a horror music video or a wedding in Paradise Valley, I try to capture the essence and the vibe. I want you to feel like you are there in that moment.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success to me is being able to have the confidence/freedom to do whatever you want and still get by. Nothing is worse than having a job you absolutely dread so if you can create on your terms and make it work, then I think you are pretty successful.

Successful artists need to have a thick skin and the discipline to hone your craft.

People are going to not like what you do.

People are going to be better than you.

That is how the world works, and that is fine. It is supposed to be that way.

Artists that last know how to take criticism and perfect their skills.

I say all this procrastinating an edit so clearly I am not there yet.

You can just find me on Instagram or my Vimeo page. Black Canyon Cineworks is my “creative” brand I guess but, I find myself more active on my personal page. Having one Instagram is hard enough these days.
