Check out Susan Meyer’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Meyer.

Susan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always liked the idea of seeing beauty. When I was a kid, I would stare at the clouds and then the flowers, looking to recreate them in different ways. I remember my teacher in elementary school asked the class to draw a tree. I drew three versions, in unique shapes and sizes. From then on, my teachers really encouraged me in my art journey. I continued to take technique classes and challenge myself as I got married and raised two daughters. I now teach classes and try to paint every single day, even if it’s just jotting down an idea, sketching or finding inspiration.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Ever since my then-toddler put her hand in my oil paint in the early days and covered the walls, I decided watercolor would be my weapon of choice. I love the way watercolor flows from white to intense color, and then it shapes objects so perfectly on the canvas. Watercolor is magic. Sometimes it creates magic itself and sometimes I have to guide it. I hope people see my sincerity in every painting–that it’s not something slapped on paper, I truly enjoy and love what I paint. Sometimes I like to capture people, sometimes landscapes and still life. -depending on what is dominant in my life at that time, my window in my art room gives me fresh inspiration each day in the desert life it reveals.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Even with all the technology available, it’s challenging and overwhelming to get your work to the masses. I find I really just want to paint, instead of figuring out how to sell it, but I know its part of the job. I’m so grateful when my work is noticed and celebrated.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, I am showing in the Desert Artisans Gallery in Tucson, where I work as well. My work has also been featured and received awards in several exhibitions. including the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. You can also visit my website, www.susan-meyer.com.
