Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Waits.
Sheila, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a young girl, I loved to draw, paint, write, sing, dance. I even played an instrument. My paintings and writing won awards. But as a young teen, I sat all those things away to fulfill my ultimate dream, to be married and have a family. When the marriage ended in 2011, I had to find Sheila again. As I began this journey of restoring my identity finding once again who I had been created to be, I started painting and writing.
I began to paint mostly for fun. Most of the time with my three grandchildren, I have three beautiful grandchildren. Then, I began to paint because it gave me joy and I noticed it gave others joy. I saw that others were actually being touched by the paintings. This is what has inspired me to want to learn to be even better. If I can give hope and love and inspire others through art, how fun is that.
My book is about “Freedom “being set free. My heart is to see people set free from hurts, trauma, sickness and more. It’s like one of my paintings of a bird flying out of the cage, being set free. That came from an actual situation with a woman who because of unconditional love was set free. I have such a desire for people to live in freedom.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint at home, and I am just beginning to get back into painting. I believe the gift is there and it is never too late to enjoy what is in your heart. I also believe when you have a gift it will grow, and I believe mine will grow and mature with time. I don’t think we are to keep it to ourselves our gifts are to share and give, that is why I like to paint and give. I am inspired by love. All that I have been blessed with. I am inspired by the hearts of people. I am inspired by creation. There is an endless world to paint!
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Yes, absolutely! I know this may fall on some deaf ears, but I would love to say to all the young ones out there. Don’t stop what you love when other things come along in life. I believe you can actually have it all. When you are given gifts in life Stewart them well. You will be so grateful and thankful you did when you get older. Your talents will be so rich and fulfilled. You will have no regrets.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I don’t have a website yet
I hope to by December
