Check out Samuel Mendez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Mendez.

Samuel, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Smile on the sinner started back in 2015 just mostly playing any all shows we could get our hands on, deciding to take the band in a more serious direction we end up parting ways with our vocalist at the time and rhythm guitar player. Spent some time looking for the right fit and thankfully through some friends we ended up getting the current line up we have today. December 18th of 2016 we put out our debut EP Lazarus in conjunction with a release show I personally count this as the official start of Smile on the sinner as it is today. There was a lot of craziness leading up to our release that I personally will never forget for both good and bad reasons.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Our band is pretty much an expression of our love for music and playing live, creating the music is probably the most stressful part, but in the same breath, it’s the best part getting to see what you have created come to life. I would say our overall message is an overall understanding of general life occurrences that may be keeping you down and trying to get back up from whatever life throws at you. We have songs about being dealt the shorthand but still maintaining a positive outlook on the situation and not letting anything keep you down like our song “Juggernaut” for example and on the other side of the spectrum we have songs like our single release of last year “Agony” that is in a fairly negative frame of mind and is, for the most part, portrays the idea of there isn’t always happy endings in life, and that’s okay.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
For me personally, I defend success by reaching your goals and making it through all the setbacks and hard times and getting all those small wins, and sooner or later you realize how far you have really come. Its essential to not let setbacks keep you from your goals and to always be looking to outdo yourself and continue growing. You get out of it what you put into it, so you defiantly need to have a solid work ethic and be driven.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can support us and what we do by liking and following us on our social media to keep unto date on what we are currently up to like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube liking and sharing is extremely appreciated. You can also listen to our music via iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google play and many more.
