Check out Ryli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryli.

Ryli, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My journey started at a young age when I was 4; I told everyone I had “angels in my throat.” It sounds wild out of the context of being four years old, but I think a piece of me always knew that music was going to be my passion and that I had a lot I wanted to say to the world.
I’m Mexican and Hungarian, and on my mom’s side of the family (Mexican side) everyone can sing so I guess you could say it was just kind of ingrained into my soul. Music is huge in our culture, and I wanted to be just like my older brother and cousins up on stage.

I started out singing, dancing, and acting at a really young age and pretty much anything in the performing arts I was there. Whether that be musical theater shows, show choir, or dancing competitively, I was pretty much non stop growing up. I was getting turned down for a lot of roles because I guess I just didn’t have the right “look,” so at 13 I decided that if no one would let me sing their story, I would start writing and singing my own. I picked up a guitar at 13 and started songwriting, and I haven’t stopped writing since (now 22).

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Songwriting and creating music is a means of escape for me from the harshness of the world, and a way for me to express my most bare thoughts. Growing up, I had a lot of insecurities as I was growing into who I would become, and my biggest hope as an artist is that I am creating a platform where people can listen to me and see what I’m doing and learn that our biggest goal in life should be to stay true to how we are and OWN it, be humble, and spread love/kindness to others.

I think being a woman in the music industry can be tough, but is so special in the fact that I really hope young women can be inspired by seeing another woman working, and band together to encourage each other to shine. I am by no means perfect, so I always try to include that in my “mission statement” that I will continue to fall and mess up publicly, but I always brush my shoulders off and keep going day by day to pursue this dream of mine.

That is the “Why I make music.” The “How I create.” is a totally different story. Each song is different of course, but the process it all happens is really amazing. Working with my producer Zorin Mcguire on this next upcoming project of mine (follow me to get updates as to when it will be released!) has been so incredible because he lets me write everything entirely on my own. Sometimes I’ll just send him a little voice note with a random melody, and we will sit down at the piano and carve out every melody, and sometimes he will get really inspired, and hand pick each synth, drum, etc. that goes into the song and show me in the studio, I fall in love with it and write to it. Nothing beats how magical the songwriting process is, and I can proudly say we handpick every single note, lyric, and sound that goes into these songs. I can’t wait for everyone to hear! (Also big shoutout to Zorin for making this project possible in the first place)

How can artists connect with other artists?
Being a solo artist can be very isolating, but I think it is important to find a community in your local scene. Go out and see shows, connect with your favorite artists on social media, and join groups that talk about your interests, whether that be songwriting, producing, or whatever your expertise is. This is something I have struggled with for a while, so be sure that you are putting feelers out and making an effort to go out and meet other artists/musicians, you never know what magic someone will bring into your life.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Thank you for asking this question, it is so important to support local art!

You can find me pretty much anywhere online on social media, from youtube to Instagram.

My website is iamryli.com, which will bring you to all my links, but I will list some of them in case you find yourself wanting to check out my work.

Please feel free to reach out and chat, my line is always open!
