Check out Paige Pflueger’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Pflueger.

Paige, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in a small town in Nebraska. Even at a young age, I gravitated towards the arts. I struggled with school; not because I didn’t care or couldn’t do the work, I just learn best doing projects or working, creating with my hands. And the art room in high school was my safe space. I would spend hours in there, getting lost in painting or drawing. My high school art teacher was a good influence on me too. She was the one who told me that I should consider studying art in college, which led me to get my BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in painting and a minor in psychology. I am in my senior year at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After I graduate, I plan to have my own studio practice, then apply to graduate school to obtain an MFA.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
It seems to me that my art has always been a reflection of how I’m feeling at a particular moment in time. My intention is to not communicate anything specific within my work, but rather an exploration of human emotion and state of consciousness. I do rely on my own experiences or feelings to create. This helps build the imagery of all the themes and concepts that make up one’s individualized self. Trusting my intuition, embracing spontaneity and doing so with confidence are the keys to a new body of work. I blur the line between our physical reality and the one that is going on in our heads. Most of my paintings have a common atmospheric quality to them by using earthy tones. And by using oil paint, I contrast the subtlety of skins tones with bold colors and thick textures in the background that enhance the emotions at play.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Reach out to artists you follow online. I do that all the time! Ask them what inspires them! Or if you are an art student, don’t be afraid to talk to fellow students or teachers. People aren’t as scary as you think, create a relationship.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
