Check Out Zaniyah Nash’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaniyah Nash.

Hi Zaniyah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved designing and making beautiful things. I started my design journey at the age of 4 and now at 12 years old, I have launched my very 1st business – Designs by Niyah. As a homeschooled student of 2 entrepreneur parents, I have watched them open and build businesses since very young. From this experience, I have learned that I want to work for myself and that the value of craftsmanship is very important. Each of my designs are hand-cut, sewn, and reinforced to make sure I put out the best product possible.

Growing my business means a lot to me, though enjoying my childhood is really important to me too. I still like playing with my brothers and love my gymnastics and karate classes. I am learning so much about being an entrepreneur and look forward to taking my brand to new levels as I get older. I plan on adding more designs to my collection by continuing to improve my sewing skills as well as developing my knowledge of running a business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have dealt with multiple challenges along the road of starting my business. Being a naturally shy person, talking to new customers isn’t always the easiest thing for me to do. I also deal with getting frustrated when things don’t go according to plan like when my sewing machine breaks in the middle of production or when the fabric is cut differently than I am used to and my normal measurements get thrown off.

Even though I love making my designs, I also struggle with staying focused on my work and have to sometimes push myself to sit down and just do it. These challenges provide me the opportunity to grow and develop as a business owner as well as a young woman. Growing anything takes time and effort and I am growing every day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was born to be a designer! I was raised to believe that using my hands and mind to create a world I want to be in, is one of the most important things I can do in my life. I’ve spent thousands of hours of my childhood using my imagination to make beautiful creations ranging from clothes, bags, pillows, doll houses, furniture, shoes, and now scrunchies.

I am currently making Handmade Deluxe Scrunchies that add a pop of color, fun, and style to my customer’s everyday life! Each scrunchie is made with durability in mind and is reinforced with an extra stitch to prevent fraying. I take my designs seriously and always want to put out the best I can make. Those that know me, know that I take my time with each design and will keep working on any project until it is perfect in my eyes.

I am most proud of continually improving my sewing skills and for fulfilling a 150 scrunchie count production order for this year’s Children’s Business Fair hosted by Acton.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Since I am still a child, my memories are many and close by.

Though some of my favorite memories are going to my family reunion in Michigan and reuniting with my cousins, moving into our new house last year, and spending my summer swimming with my brothers in the pool! My childhood has been great so far and I look forward to looking back on it as an adult.
