Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Vosough.
Hi Zack, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally, I went to Culinary School in Orange County, CA, where I am from. At 23, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in kitchens. I wasn’t making enough money to afford NYC, so I got a job barbacking 2 nights a week. I fell in love with it, it was the same pace as cooking, same adrenaline, but you got to be out front and talk to people. Shortly after, I switched all my attention to the bar, bartending, and getting good at it. I fell backwards into working bars that were in Hotels and Resorts, where you really get to treat guests like they’re staying with you, it’s an awesome feeling to be able to give that kind of service. After gaining experience in craft beer, cocktails, and high-end resort-level hospitality, in 2018, I moved to Arizona to be closer to family and continued in resorts (The Sanctuary on Camelback 2019-2021, The Phoenician 2021-present). During that time, I got inquiries from guests from time to time about bartending at their parties at their home. Eventually, I decided to make a business, or I guess a side project… out of that and founded Easy Drinking LLC. I still bartend at Thirsty Camel Lounge inside The Phoenician when I’m not doing work for Easy Drinking.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was intimidating and unnerving at times to leave something I went to school for to pursue a career working in bars. I think many people view bartending as a stop-over, something you do while you’re figuring it out. But for me, and a lot of people out there, it’s a labor of love. Once that realization was made, it’s a matter of balancing the hours that this career demands with having a semi-normal personal life, and figuring out how to make a living out of doing something you love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m fortunate enough to have learned from some amazing bartenders with very broad skill sets. At Easy Drinking, I like to make thoughtful, well-done cocktails that everyone at the event will enjoy. My favorite part is always getting the person who wants “something not sweet with vodka” to drink something like a Strawberry-Basil Collins and be excited about it. I think at this stage I get the most enjoyment out of clients being happy with what hiring a bartender brought to the party, for me that’s what it’s all about.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
When I started doing events, I realized that it’s expensive to hire a private bartender. I always had that in mind when setting my pricing. I want hiring a bartender to be as reasonable as hiring at caterer. Cheers!
