Check Out Wendy Montgomery’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Montgomery.

Hi Wendy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I have been insatiably curious about human possibility. I have always wanted to know what makes people genuinely happy, successful and creatively fulfilled. What makes us tick? Why do some people struggle while others find a way to thrive, often despite the most challenging circumstances? This drive led me to become a Professional Certified Life Coach through The Life Coach School and a trained and accredited iEQ9 Enneagram Master Educator and Coach. I’ve been studying the Enneagram for over a decade, and I never stop being amazed by its depth, accuracy, and the transformative insight it offers into who we are and why we do what we do. It’s been a game-changer in every area of my life—relationships, parenting, work, and my own self-development—and I’ve made it my mission to help others harness its power for deep and lasting change.

I’m also a proud mom of five kids, four of whom identify as LGBTQIA+. My husband, Tom, and I have been married for 30 years. For most of my life, I was a devoted member of the LDS (Mormon) Church, with deep pioneer roots. In 2018, after years of advocacy within the church to create more love and inclusion for LGBTQIA+ members and their families, I made the incredibly difficult decision to step away. Our family’s journey was documented in the Family Acceptance Project’s short film Families Are Forever, and since then, I’ve continued to speak out nationally on faith, identity, and unconditional love.

For over 13 years, I’ve worked as a national advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion, suicide prevention, and family acceptance. I co-founded Mama Dragons and have served on the boards of both Mama Dragons and Affirmation. My family and I have received several honors for our work, including the “Voice Ally” award from the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and the “Let Love Define Family” award from Raise A Child. My advocacy has been featured in outlets like NPR, The New York Times, O Magazine, The Advocate, and more.

Whether I’m guiding a client through the Enneagram, leading a workshop, or speaking on stage, my goal is always the same: to help people live more authentically, love more deeply, and lead lives rooted in compassion and clarity. At the heart of all my work is the belief that everyone deserves to be fully seen, deeply understood, and powerfully supported in becoming who they truly are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; starting a business rarely is. I faced my share of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and uncertainty about whether I could truly make a living doing what I loved. I questioned whether what I offered would really matter to others. But deep down, I knew the Enneagram had the power to transform lives since it had completely transformed mine. I trusted my extensive training, my experience, and the impact I’d already seen in my work. That clarity gave me the courage and confidence to keep going, even when fear crept in. I knew what I was offering had real value, and that conviction became my anchor and my fuel.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an Enneagram and Empowerment Coach who helps people break through long-held patterns that are holding them back so they can show up in their lives more authentically and consciously. My work combines the depth and accuracy of the Enneagram with powerful coaching tools to help my clients create lasting change in every area of their lives, from their most important relationships and career leadership to self-awareness and deep personal growth.

What I’m most known for is my ability to translate complex inner dynamics into something my clients can see and relate to, and then how to take action. I don’t just teach the Enneagram as a personality system. I guide people through their unique transformational work that gets to the root of who they are and how they show up in the world. I’m also known for holding grounded, safe, and direct coaching space, especially for clients who are strong, high-capacity individuals who don’t often feel truly seen or challenged.

I’m especially proud of the work I’ve done with empowering women, LGBTQIA+ parents and allies, as well as spiritual seekers who are deconstructing old systems and rebuilding more authentic lives. I’ve walked that path myself, so I know how disorienting and also liberating that process can be.

What sets me apart is my depth of knowledge, intuitive use of the Enneagram, my can-do attitude, and high-vibe positive energy. I bring a unique blend of personal lived experience, professional certification, and over a decade of Enneagram study to the table. I’ve been through the fire, and I don’t shy away from the hard stuff. I meet my clients where they are—with both compassion, clarity, and humor, and I help them move toward who they’re meant to become.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson the Enneagram teaches is that transformation begins with radical self-honesty and deep self-compassion. I love the phrase self-friendship. The Enneagram teaches us how to be a true friend to ourselves, to love ALL the parts of us. It also reveals that so much of what drives our behavior isn’t who we truly are, it’s who we thought we had to be to feel safe, loved, or worthy. The Enneagram holds up a mirror, not to shame us, but to liberate us.

As a Coach, this truth grounds all of my work. I’ve learned that people don’t change through pressure or perfection; they change through understanding and grace. The Enneagram has taught me to meet myself and my clients with curiosity instead of criticism, and to hold space for both our unconscious shadows and our brilliantly beautiful light. It reminds me that growth is never about becoming someone else. It’s about returning to who we’ve always been underneath the strategies we adopted to feel safe in a sometimes precarious world.

Personally, it’s taught me that strength and vulnerability are not opposites, they’re partners. That has changed everything for me – not just as a coach, but as a human.
