Check Out Stealing Oceans (Brian Thompson)’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stealing Oceans (Brian Thompson).

Hi Stealing Oceans. Can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started writing music when I was 15yrs old. I was failing out of school, running away from home, and, at one point, almost taking my own life. Sitting down and putting my feelings on paper became my therapy and, in many ways, saved me. After getting sent away at 16 and finishing 5yrs of high school, I ended up in Colorado for college. I dropped out after one yr and moved in with my manager in Denver. He worked for one of the biggest drug dealers in the city, so to make ends meet, I would run shipments from Denver to Montana to pay for studio time. During that time, I lost two of my friends in the game and realized I needed a change. I moved out, got sober for a yr, and worked on my craft daily while working at various restaurants to pay for the hills. That led me to Nashville, TN, where I signed my first record deal and, for the first time, could live solely off the music. I began using my platform to promote mental health and help/mentor kids in similar situations that I had been through. I ended up leaving my label and going independent, which led me to LA for two years. I was touring heavily until the pandemic hit and put everything on pause. I decided to move to Scottsdale and start a show called Lobster & Beer TV with my managers, Alec Schlegelmilch and Matt Seiple. Today, we’re back on the road playing shows, still putting L&B TV episodes out, and we recently partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Arizona chapter to help raise money for mental health awareness.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Haha no. As mentioned in response to the previous question, it’s been anything but a smooth road. Chasing your dreams is hard, but I pushed through and have seen many of them come true already.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a musician, mental health advocate, and co-founder/host of Lobster & Beer TV. Recently I put out a song called “Stars On The Ceiling” featuring one of my favorite artists, Scott Avett (The Avett Brothers). Through our connections with Lobster & Beer TV, we teamed up with Shipyard Brewery to create a beer that matched the song’s sonic landscape. While drinking the beer, you can scan a QR code on the can to listen to the song and watch a custom video for a one-of-a-kind multi-sensory experience. Total Wine loved the concept and recently released it in all of its stores across the US!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Sometimes it’s being in the right place at the right time and having the ability to recognize an opportunity.
