Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Harradence.
Sherry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in art began in kindergarten, when the excitement of a new paint smock sparked my dream to become an artist. Throughout my school years, this passion for color and creative expression only grew stronger. Art has always been an essential part of my life—whenever I spend time away from painting or creating, I feel unbalanced.
Driven by this creativity, I have explored both visual and mixed media arts, participating in workshops, showing work in galleries, and sharing my process online. Since 2012, I have documented my artistic progress and connected with a wider audience, especially through my Shopify store (smhart.store) and Fine Art America (sherryharradence@pixels.com. Creating art not only brightens my own space but also inspires me to help others find joy and expression in theirs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth ride as I find Art is a hard road and struggle along the way to find your tribe/people. Learning self Marketing, Websites, social media. Honing in and knowing your true Art loving audience. Also, I know many artists struggle with finding the right marketing platform to gain audiences as well as to sell your paintings. It’s visual, your photos needs to be of highest quality so the viewer will see exactly what they are purchasing. You learn to wear many hats in this kind of business. Its worth it in the end.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a mixed-media and acrylic painter who creates expressive, color-rich works that celebrate connection, emotion, and everyday life. I specialize in layered surfaces—combining paint, drawing, and collage—to build depth, texture, and a sense of movement in my pieces.
I am especially proud of the consistency of my practice over many years, from journaling my progress and selling work online to participating in workshops and gallery shows. What sets me apart is the way I blend a lifelong passion for color with a genuine desire to make spaces feel happier and more alive, and to encourage others to express themselves creatively in their own environments.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Phoenix stands out for its beautiful desert landscapes, rich arts scene, and vibrant community life. What I love most are the wide-open spaces, from the Sonoran Desert trails and Papago Park to the ever-inspiring views at the Desert Botanical Garden and Camelback Mountain. The city is full of opportunities for creative inspiration, whether it’s seeing public murals in Roosevelt Row, visiting local galleries, or connecting with other artists at cultural events. It’s also a very diverse, welcoming place to live and create, and the sunsets are simply unbeatable.
What I like least is the extreme summer heat, which can be challenging for outdoor activities and sometimes makes it harder to enjoy the city’s natural beauty. But despite the weather, Phoenix’s energy, support for the arts, and the ability to find both big city excitement and peaceful nature keep me motivated and proud to call it home.
