Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Morley.
Hi Olivia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I decided to become an entrepreneur a couple of years ago when I chose to become self-employed. I had provided graphic design work for clients as a side job and in the workplace but had never committed to it full-time to provide for myself. I have always loved running my own business, providing for myself, and having a close relationship with the clients I have chosen to work with. Deciding to take this leap during the beginning of COVID-19 and uncertain times was risky but has paid off in many fulfilling ways. Around this time, I became interested in learning more about the Web 3.0 space, NFTs, and crypto. I entered the space, creating my fine art NFTs using my graphic design background. I expanded my involvement as I grew my connections in the space and became more informed on the future of digital worlds. I started working on teams for other projects, creating content, managing social media platforms, advising, and providing marketing strategies. I’ve also been fortunate to have fostered some great partnerships from the connections I’ve made. Running my own business and providing my clients with both graphic design and Web 3.0 services has been a dream come true. I also have some exciting new opportunities coming up soon that I can’t wait to share!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While I am thrilled with my decision to become self-employed and enter a new space, it has its challenges. When I was providing graphic design services, I was confident in my work, but the business side of things was quite intimidating. Figuring out self-employment taxes, paying quarterly taxes, drawing up contracts, and sending through invoices. It’s all doable, but at the time, it felt overwhelming. It became comforting to figure it out the first year, find a tax professional to help me and realize that once you know the steps, it becomes like riding a bike. I would like to thank Mesa United Way for providing free tax services and all the accountants in the East Valley who volunteer their time to help young entrepreneurs like myself to make the process a lot less scary. The second big obstacle I faced was imposter syndrome entering the Web 3.0 space. I am a designer, but I am in no way tech-savvy. I had no idea what I was getting into in the crypto world and felt confused when connections would contact me, wanting me to join their projects. I thought my inexperience would shine through right away, but instead, I could learn on my feet much quicker than I expected and found a space that I thrive in. What’s also so beautiful about this new age and space is that because it’s so new itself, people are more welcoming and prefer transparency in inexperience rather than “20 years of work experience” because, in the Web 3.0 space, it doesn’t exist! Imposter syndrome is real and can be challenging to overcome. Still, I encourage anyone experiencing it not to let it win because the rooms that feel uncomfortable at first are usually the best rooms to stay in because they show growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Graphic Designer, NFT Artist, Social Media Manager, and Project Manager who takes on select contract clients each year. My services range from content creation, illustrations, branding, marketing strategizing, website building, and social media management to Web 3.0 consulting, NFT project management, NFT creation, and coordinating partnership collaborations. My broad range of services and commitment to learning more and growing my services set me apart from other businesses. The Web 3.0 space is the future, and most clients need someone to help them understand the space and how to enter it. Not only am I that person to navigate clients through the space, but I also make sure to assist clients with their Web 2.0 design needs as we transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.
What are your plans for the future?
I am very excited to see what the future holds. I’m looking forward to growing my business and the types of services I can offer and enjoying all the benefits that working remotely offers. Traveling is essential to me; having the freedom to work from anywhere will allow me to travel more frequently. I have some things in the works that I can share regarding some special giveaways I’ll be offering and exciting partnerships I’m taking on. Stay tuned!
