Check Out Olivia Carter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Carter

Hi Olivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We saw a gap in the market for a quick resource guide for families trying to get out of their house. Olivia started the MWN PDX Instagram page in the summer of 2017 with a 4 & 2 year old. She was living in the city she grew up in but was overwhelmed by the choices of where to go and also hindered by the lack of knowledge about places waiting to be explored. With a desire to be prepared & adventurous, she was having a hard time finding how these 2 could coexist. Fatigued by asking friends when they would post about somewhere or searching through blogs and google, she wanted to start her own database of these spots. We want hikes and libraries to live side by side and be accessible for a quick search before you get the door.

A few years later, Erica & Victoria, 2 moms who relocated to Bend, OR during the pandemic saw a similar need for this type of resource in their new home. Erica had moved from Portland so she was familiar with MWN PDX, so they reached out to start a page in their own city!

Once they saw the momentum and community that grew as a result, they knew there was the potential to grow this concept for all cities to benefit, Phoenix included! In May of 2022 ‘Mom What’s Next’ was trademarked and the trio did a major re-brand and created the network to bring in more City Managers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our core values have always stayed the same and that has helped keep our focus on what matters to us but there have been definite bumps in the road. Most of our business and content living on a platform that we do not own and that is always changing has been tough as well our busy lives as moms and other work outside of this that we have on our plates.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have always seen myself as a resource with the ultimate goal of helping make others lives better. At my best, I am a coordinator, organizer and relational and have used all of those things to help Mom What’s Next be successful in the fact of it reaching and helping many.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I always liked to help coordinate things, organize stuff, and be with my friends!
