Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Kwass.
Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with fashion. In fact, the first word I ever spoke was the word earring. I started young when I would subject my little sister to numerous impromptu styling sessions and photo shoots. As I got a bit older, I began acting as an on-demand stylist for anyone who admired my sense of style.
Shopping trips, closet revamps and approval photos sent from fitting rooms have been a big part of my life for years.
I attended the University of Arizona where I earned a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. I have always been passionate about connecting how people live and how they wish to present themselves with their unique wants and needs. I’ve always felt that this has given me a unique perception that my clients really value.
Combining my passion for people and fashion, I began my styling career as a stylist at Nordstrom Trunk Club for over four years in Chicago. I have forged many close relationships with my clients through in-person and virtual styling services throughout the country.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It is a challenging yet interesting time in which to start a business. Whether it be economic affairs, world health issues, or anything else one may consider, times can be tough. I prefer not to focus on that but rather to search out the opportunities the changing landscape can provide.
This lens can be challenging but very exciting as well. The status quo may not work right now, so thinking outside the box can lead to success. Change equals opportunity. This may be the perfect time to bring your dreams to life.
With that said, starting out on a new venture can be a very lonely place. I had to learn to be my own cheerleader and my own support system.
I have found that an important way to help yourself through this is to seek out a group of people to bounce ideas off.
My solution was to find a community of like-minded people who could help me along, as I help them. Local small business groups often meet to do just this. Not only did I create lasting friendships, but I also discovered mentors and some very new and interesting ways of thinking. I will pass along a valuable piece of advice that I earned from these relationships. This would be, do not get discouraged, continue to keep on giving 110%, and expect the fruits of your labor to come a bit down the road. You will get there.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My services don’t stop at styling. I also do closet edits in person and virtually. Imagine a closet that is not cluttered with things you don’t like. A closet filled with items that make you feel great. This doesn’t just mean tossing everything either. Some pieces can be repurposed or styled in a way that will bring new life to them.
I am also a valuable gifting resource. No more searching for just the right gift. I have experience with so many types of clients and I am always on top of trends or the most coveted gifts at the time. A short conversation about the budget and the person receiving the gift will lead to a curated selection for you to choose from. It’s as simple as that!
Here is what I would like to see my clients take away from their experience working with me:
I love helping people create the image they would like to share with others. It makes me so happy to see the smiles on people’s faces when they feel great about how they look.
Creating a curated closet of items that they love and look forward to wearing is so important. No more opening your closet and saying I have nothing to wear!
I’d like to become an important part of their support team, someone they trust to help them get to where they’d like to be. Someone who can help them feel great about how they look. This is what excites me the most.
Working with a stylist can be surprisingly affordable. It can actually save you time and money. Imagine not wasting money on clothing that you don’t love and won’t wear. This means no more trips to a poorly lit fitting room with an armful of pieces and a hope that at least one of them will work.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I believe one of my most important life lessons has been to be aware and sensitive to those who surround you. In the end, we are all the same, it is only our individual experiences that may shape our lives at any given time.
When a client comes to me for help they may be searching for wardrobe help, but their reasons for this search can be very different. My goal is to understand where they are coming from and where they are in their life at that time.
A new parent, a weight loss or fitness journey, health or physical limitations, a new career, or even a new stage of life, all bring about a look within and an opportunity to revamp or reinvent ourselves. My sensitivity to a person’s needs is what will make my services valuable to them.
To me, connecting with people on a personal level makes my services easier, more successful, and more gratifying. It means so much to me to have a positive influence on the lives of others.
