Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Ortiz.
Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2012 when I was opening for kid ink & kirko bangz. It was the first concert I actually put together from promo to building the stage and setting up the production to performing in front of a sold-out crowd. After that, the spark really came from the sun headlining. See the thing about sub headliners is that they never get the full production. The loud volume to full lights and video. So we had to change that. We started a production company and started doing everything in-house.
My brother Johnny was attending the U of A and secured the frat contracts which are our bread and butter today.
After production, I ventured off into modeling and creating a modeling booking company. I landed a few big sponsorship and contracts with that. Then also I started a promotion and events company. They all co-exist so it’s a no-brainer. Just recently I purchased a few cameras and now I’m building content for people. Entrepreneurship never stops it just keeps growing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, as an artist it wasn’t cool to have a 9-5 and tell people you make music so I quit my job and did music full time.
Financially that was a struggle. Also learning production is not easy. From programming lights and dialing in sound correctly. Setting up the video wall and running it.
Along the way, I worked on the road and got to run logistics for many music festivals. That in itself is crazy. Being away from family and friends, and significant others is always the toughest when you’re chasing your dreams or building your empire. There isn’t much time for the outside world. You’re too busy working. Creating. Building
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say I am known for hosting amazing fun events, known for modeling, photos, and commercials I’ve been in. People recognize me as an entrepreneur and entertainer. It’s a hard question because the answer depends on the time and era we are talking about.
From 2006 to 2016, I was known for my music being one of the most talented artists in AZ. After that I was known for hosting the littlest nights at the clubs, now recently I’m known as a model and content creator. Someone that can get you booked or help you build your social media presence
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor or networking is to find your niche and then look for people who are masters in that niche. Seek advice from those who have accomplished what you want to or have done the things you are striving to do. Ask multiple people questions and absorb their stories and experiences.
After that take what you’ve learned from each and every unique individual and use parts of what worked for them to build a formula that will work for you. Not everyone is the same so the road will be different for everyone. But there will be similarities and that’s where you can apply others’ advice to create your success story.
