Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Vivanco.

Matthew, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Photography for me started as a hobby – from photographing landscapes and appealing architecture to capturing classic and exotic cars. From there my interest turned into capturing family trips and travels. This was not enough to fulfill my artistic desires, so my eagerness of being able to tell the stories around me led me to seek lifestyle photography and photojournalistic photography at Elevation Church (Charlotte, NC). While taking these unique experiences, tools and all skills along the way, it gave me the yearning to learn to tell wedding stories through my lens, and that is where I am today.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I am a big believer that each person has a unique voice to be heard and work to be seen. With the way society is these days, oversaturation of social media, it makes it easy for artists to be unappreciated and undervalued. As creatives, we become our own biggest critic and compare our work to others around. This often creates a sense of fear that keeps us from putting our work out to be seen and experienced. In turn, it makes it harder for artists to thrive.

Growing cities like ours grant the opportunity for artists to have a space to provide exposure to others and build groups of like-minded individuals to encourage community OVER competition.
