Today we’d like to introduce you to Mathew Mueller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life story has been one of love, struggle, loss, injury, and ultimate dependence on God. With the suicide of my father, a military-career-ending car accident, infertility, and miscarriages. The Lord was cultivating in my heart aright dependence on Him. In all the struggle and hardship my wife Tracy and I can clearly look back and see God at work preparing my heart, my family, and my grit for ministry.
After more than a year of discipleship and a stint as Valley Life Tramonto’s director of guest services, I was tagged to plant a Valley Life Church in nearby North Peoria in March 2020, about the time the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. We have persevered in planting the church and in parenting our adopted newborn, Briella, now 3½ years old.
About 60 people are currently attending Sunday worship and home-based community groups with Valley Life Church North Peoria weekly, with a focus on making disciples and planting churches. We strive to create an environment for people to belong, be known, and find purpose. As the COVID-19 pandemic is subsiding, we are focusing strongly on evangelism, discipleship, and eventually planting another church.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was like a week before our big community party in the park for our neighbors when the world shut down.
So we had to basically adjust our expectations. What we hoped would be launching large and growing quickly, turned into just serving and loving our neighbors. We began online worship and found unique ways to bless our community.
As the community revived, we began holding Sunday evening services at nearby Discovery Pointe Church. In July 2021, we had the opportunity to move to Zuni Hills Elementary School, where we currently meet on Sunday mornings at 10 AM.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My focus as the Pastor of Valley Life North Peoria is to be a church that is essential to our community.
We accomplish this by looking for creative ways to bless, encourage, engage, and show love. Whether or not people ever attend a Valley Life campus we want our community to know that they belong, are known, and have a purpose.
We are also partnered with other like-minded churches to grow together, learn, and help support each other.
