Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Silva.
Hi Mariana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Since I can remember, I’ve loved photography, when I was little, I took pictures with my grandmother’s analog camera all the time, and she got distraught with me when she went to develop it and saw that the roll was just pictures of shoes, furniture, dolls and much more, I always liked to record everything my eyes saw and immortalize those moments until today. I bought my first camera when I was 12, and since that day, we’ve been inseparable; I took it everywhere. My weekends were spent photographing my friends, I did all the styling, make-up, and the choice of locations, and I loved exploring new places until I started doing some professional and paid sessions. Day after day, I grew and had a portfolio of clients. I created my social networks, frequently posted behind-the-scenes photos of my sessions, and kept my portfolio up-to-date.
At the age of 15, I had my first wedding; it was one of the most exciting but terrifying days at the same time. It was all new to me. I didn’t even know the procedure and what I couldn’t miss from a wedding. I did a lot of research, and in the end, it was a success; experience is the best way to learn! At 17 years old, I finished my photography technician course, where I knew all the necessary bases. I gained a lot of experience by working in a studio for 2 years before heading to university, not only with photography but, above all, with communication.
I have a degree in fashion photography, and nowadays, my work is based on fashion, beauty, and portraits. My sister has a clothing brand, and we’ve always collaborated; I always photographed all the collections, and our work has appeared in countless magazines and articles worldwide and even on national television. This has always been my passion. I love to tell a story, capture emotions and transmit and immortalize these moments; I do it through photography because I need more confidence with words.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a challenging road to where I am today. Being an artist is hard work; every day, it is more difficult to people to appreciate your art, no matter how good you are. To follow my dreams, I had to leave my country and study far away from my family and friends. From a young age, I worked to be able to buy my photographic equipment and invest in my business. I was always afraid of what others might think. Still, I never let that impede anything in my professional or personal life because not everything is within our reach. This path had many ups and downs, but it’s part of life; everything good takes time. I work hard every day to improve and deliver my clients the best work.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do?
I specialize in fashion, beauty, and portraits; my work is mostly location, studio, or wherever is most convenient for my clients and creative teams. I am also available for projects worldwide. I love creating concepts, directing sessions, styling and displaying clothing and accessories, movement, and creating vibrant, bright, and neutral color palettes; I like posing but also natural feelings. My photography conveys the beauty of each one of us through images and memories. My work has been changing along with my interior change and evolution. This reflects my person, simplicity, femininity, power, and lightness. It’s a creative process of dedication and investment in everything I produce. I am grateful and proud of the business I built along the way and everyone who has a role in my life and every day believes I can go further.
