Check Out Margo Huntley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Huntley.

Hi Margo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Margo – I graduated from Arizona State University in the spring of 2022 with a Degree in Business Fashion and Digital Audiences (marketing). Originally I’m from Missoula, Montana which will always hold a special place in my heart although I don’t imagine myself permanently back there at any point. Like many of us growing up I always had my sights set high on a dream job. For me, it was always fashion. I didn’t know quite where in the industry I would fit,I never had a strong talent or interest in design. All I knew was I loved the creativity, collaboration, and expressive outlet that fashion and the fashion industry as a whole offered especially when compared to other career paths.

As I got older, and social media became a more prevalent part of society and our lives I immediately took a liking to it. I think it offered that same creative, expressive outlet that I was drawn to surrounding fashion. I have been a huge social media user from day one… I will shamelessly admit that I was that person in high school posting like an influencer before micro/macro influencers were even really a thing – the digital world was still run by those mega figures and celebrities. So fashion and social media were my two big passions. Still, it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college (2020) when I was still trying to figure out what area of fashion I wanted to work in that I had that aha moment and realized social media is a part of every single industry now. I could combine my two biggest passions and essentially have this dream job. And from there of course it was just a matter of finding it and making a plan to get there.

Well, on to my senior year when it was really time to get serious about looking for a post-grad job – that the most beautiful opportunity found its way into my life. I actually started as a model at Obtaining Social (the company I currently work for). I didn’t know a lot about the company, I knew they were a social media/content creation agency and I was going in to model for one of their clients which was a clothing brand. The shoot was a dream – it was so much fun and something in my gut told me to keep in close touch and contact with the people I met there. A few months pass and there was a job opening at which point I was still actively modeling for a few of their clients to make a long story very short I was determined to wiggle my way in & up from model to part-time creative assistant.

Here we are going on a year later and the rest is history. My relationship with the company and the absolute dream team who I work with has continued to grow and blossom. Over the past 6 months, I can so proudly say I have had the honor of watching the company grow, evolve, and succeed in ways that are currently beyond all of our wildest dreams. For me, it has been a full circle moment sitting in meetings with potential clients who (without saying too much) are brands that the younger me would have fainted if she knew she was talking to and developing relationships/working with both fashion brands and other as we do service and take on clients of literally all industries.

What do I credit for getting myself where I am today? Without sounding cliche believing that I could and would.

Everyone has a dream and goals but a lot of people limit themselves with their own minds. They tell themselves what they want to do isn’t realistic, they hope it will happen but choose to mostly place their bets on a safer route. Don’t do that yourself! No matter what age you are, what stage of life. It’s never too early or too late to shift your path and direction toward what you know you are meant to do in life. When you are 100% committed to following your genuine calling in life, it will always work out.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If life ever feels like a completely smooth road, I know I’m doing something wrong. Of course, there have been struggles. Struggles and challenges to me just mean I’m doing something right. They mean I’m outside of my comfort zone. I’m pushing my limits, I’m in uncharted territory.

All of those things are opportunities for growth. I also think we work harder when were struggling a little bit. Getting too comfortable should feel uncomfortable. This sounds so intense – I don’t mean for it to. Of course, life shouldn’t be a big struggle but I guess what I’m saying is struggle shouldn’t be feared but rather embraced.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My industry and my line of work are something that will forever be difficult to explain (especially to my grandparents). There’s not one specific thing that I do nor is there a job title or label that really summarizes it. I think many people in creative industries can relate to this. At the end of the day, the goal is to help the brands that we represent thrive through the use of social media (not just thrive on social media). We cultivate a community, foster that community, and bring it cross-platform of course with the goal of seeing conversions due to that community’s growth. Social media content is the medium for this process but each brand is so different and has a different audience, a different story, and a different message which we have to find and define.

The strategy behind what we do for any two brands will never be the same. A brand or business on social media is almost like a person, they need to find their voice, message, and story that will draw audiences in to love the brand and feel genuinely connected to it. So a lot of what we do is run tests, monitor analytics, trend research, observe, adjust, run more tests and continue that process until we hit the sweet spot and are able to define, establish and strongly personify a brand in the digital space. All of what we do is organic which is unique, we don’t want inauthentic followers or relationships with our clients. I believe this is the new wave of marketing and being a gen-Z company gives us the advantage to have grown up gaining a deep understanding of this new wave and being part of it as it developed.
