Check Out Lucy Davies’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Davies.

Hi Lucy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started crocheting in 2020 by watching tutorials online, and my love for the craft grew. Three years on, I’m slowly growing a small business, which has been supported by many in my local village and my close friends and family. I mostly do amigurumi, which involves working in rounds to create items such as soft toys.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
I’m a bit of a perfectionist, meaning I can be quite self-critical of my work sometimes, so that has been my biggest obstacle. Learning something new can be daunting, so I knew I had to be patient. Despite this, I’ve pushed myself to keep going and create more; I’ve found that the more I crochet, the better I get.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create soft toys using crochet, I post a lot of my work on my Instagram page, which is @madebyelldee, and I specialize in handmade items. I’m most proud of the peas in a pod that I crocheted, it’s one of my more famous works, and I based it on inspiration from a picture I saw in a crochet book. My work’s individuality sets me apart from others; although I often use pictures of others’ work for inspiration, I make it my own and use my techniques.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
If I were to credit anyone for my success, it would have to be my mum; she’s supported me since day one. Whether it’s been buying me yarn or sharing my work on social media, she’s always been there for me. I’d also like to credit my friends far and wide, who’ve shown great interest in what I do and have even purchased some of my works.
